I may be wrong here but if you look at CapFriendly..AZ gets our highest draft pick unless both the Habs AND Carolina finish in the top 10 for draft picks in which case we can give them the worst pick..thats not happening so the tank is not in our best interest.

No. The pick is protected if it is in the top 10.Say we tank and get the 3rd pick, it’s protected and Arizona gets the worst of our 2 1st round pick therefore they get Carolina’s pick which is pretty sure to be a late first round pick. Condition is clearly explained here:

Conditions: The better of Montreal/Carolina's 2022 1st round pick BUT if either or both are top 10 picks then Montreal will instead transfer to Arizona the worse of Montreal/Carolina's 2022 1st round pick.

I have a feeling that Gorton decision to keep Ducharme as head coach for the season more or less secures our 1st round pick in the top 10 of the draft, so that we give Carolina most likely late 1st to the Coyotes instead for the Dvorak trade. Don't really expect DD to survive beyond this season though, the guy looks completely clueless and without an once of charisma in him, Michel Therrien looks like Patrick Roy next to him

The decision to keep Ducharme through the end of the season has clearly upset the vets. Before then, there was at least some effort to win, since then it seems the vets are just thinking we’re stuck playing a system that doesn’t work, we don’t have a chance so why bother and i can kind of see their point. System doesn’t work and is more or less handcuffing the attack whether or not the great minds of Gaston Gingras and Mario Tremblay can see it.

From an outside perspective who do you all think will be the next GM?
- FlamesFan1230

I find it hard to believe that you seriously want to talk hockey and not just troll in here but i’ll give you a chance lol. The short answer is who knows...the list of candidates is very long and the least surprising thing would be if it was a name none of us or the pundits have suggested yet.

According to the Athletic, 3 women are actually on the list of candidates and I hope that if one of them is selected it will be because they are the best candidate for the job and not some kind of PR damage control mission after the Mailloux drafting fiasco. The timing is suspect to say the least and they will start with a strike against them if they have no GM experience at any level whatsoever. TBH when Molson said he wanted more diversity in his hockey ops department I really didnt think that meant giving the GM job to a woman but I guess it’s possible.

Players’ agent Allan Walsh, who represents Drouin among others, did not hesitate for a second to defend his protégé when he heard of Waite’s comments.

“How sad it is to see Stéphane Waite, who was fired from the Canadiens goaltending coach, being so desperate and in need of attention, that he has to do interviews claiming what was going on in the CH locker room and attacking different players. A true professional … doesn't address the truthful attack....“ and Drouin plays his best game is months...what a surprise?

I could see them naming a woman Assistant GM, in charge of the Laval Rocket, learning the ropes along side Gorton and the next GM.

Stephane Waite is a journalist?

I'm on Walsh's side since he was fired Waite is huge attention whore and will say anything on RDS or his podcasts for a little bit of attention.

Don't you think it's surprising that the goalie coach to the best goalie is still out of a job?

I saw the whole Petry after game comments...I mean, he did say "we know where we should be on the ice, but we just don't do it". What I heard in my opinion was more him saying that they don't have structure because they don't execute properly.

I don't think it was him really taking a shot at Ducharme the way the idiots at l'Antichambre are trying to spin it into.

Petry, Toffoli, Gallagher, Price, Chiarot, Armia amongst the candidates...

It's going to be hard to get rid of these long term contracts. Bergevin pretty much handcuffed the new management. Guys who could leave from here on to the deadline are probably Chiarot, Perreault, Lehkonen...maybe Kulak, Wideman...
