I just did honestly and the WHO states that Influenza is estimated to kill 290 000-650 000 each years. Which is a lot of deaths that I think we should take more seriously. I don't get on the "it's only old people dying" train, because I don't think it is a smart and compassionate point to make about any kind of life-threatening aspect of life.

WHO states that there is 5 318 216 deaths caused by COVID-19 since, well, 2019. So this is pretty much the complete opposite in terms of compared death rates than that was previously put forward.

I'm expecting posts containing hyperlinks towards alternative data institutions that know better than WHO to follow. And also, I expect them to come in the form of Youtube videos.

it's the forcing their perspectives on other people that's the problem.

everyone is gonna do what they're gonna do but the amount of people trying to convince everyone else that "i'm right and you're wrong" is amazing. especially the people just repeating stupid stuff over and over.

When opinions started becoming facts, and quantifiable facts stopped being relevant, then I am not sure what you expect to happen.

I am all for personal freedom as long as it does not impact others around you. And when that starts to happen, then I do have very strong opinions on the matter.

the only view that should be forced on people is that I am the best.

as soon as they hit or close in on 500 hospitalizations in Quebec, it's lights out. everything will be shut down again. and if the last 2 days are any indication, we're about 7-10 days away from that happening.

i think the big thing for the league is going to be the border situation. as long as teams can cross the border, i think they'll power through. unless you end up like 6-7 teams debilitated at once.

They will add 2 weeks vacation after xmass for the schools and quite sure a lockdown on Jan 1st.

and im sure there's many like you. but there are many people who are comfortable doing those things and going out in general. and with what we see now, it looks like we're going to be stuck in this cycle of pandemic raging/subsiding/raging for possibly a few years to come, i just hope we can deal with the raging phases without all having to stay home for months at a time.
- DoubleDown

I've been doing that rage cycle since 06.27.2006 and I haven't locked myself at home!

While all will happen, remember what Shrek Legault said.
"Get 5-11 vaxed so we don't have to shut down schools"

"Vaxports so we can avoid another lockdown"

Of course he is a notorious liar, but has a loyal boomer base who worship him.

Not defending him or supporting him, but at the end of the day, we have not seen a pandemic like this before. Plus add the level of fake info and vitrol out there, including people who refuse to adhere to the most basic of health protocols, this was never going to end well (or fast). In the past, we have mostly lined up for our shots, followed protocol, and done what is best for everyone.

Add to that we are a more global and mobile society than we have ever been.

So I appreciate the urgency around the request to help minimize the longer term impact, even if a little delusion around the hopefulness.

The whole "they said it was gonna be over and it is not over so they lied, therefore they were completely wrong about everything" crowd can just go (frank) themselves.
