Everyone said Nashville breeds Dmen, he’s going to be so great. Guess what, he’s sucked. Obviously we have the additional cap out of the trade. Patrick is the biggest red flag in the league lol
- ClaudeFather

Wrt Patrick I actually think that the requested a trade as had been reported. I was hoping that wasn’t the case, that he’d come back and show that he’s heathy and could play so that we could get something for him in a trade. Not long after that report came out, he was gone in that trade. He certainly played as if he didn’t care at all to be on the team but that just might be his mints game.

So Ellis getting an MRI but getting closer. Brassard skated but at least a week away. Farabee ahead of schedule but not this week. Allison maybe be called up in a couple of games.

Brassard is out again?

edit: NM I see it.

And I read Farabee may need surgery according to Yahoo.

Looking at the upcoming schedule for the Flyers it is easy to see this could be the start of the annual run to the Moral Victory Cup. A streak that management will use to justify business as usual.
- StepfordSam

There's nothing favorable anymore with this team when the Flyers become the team everyone wants to go against.

I get it. No team in the upcoming few games is a team you would fear. But right now, the Flyers have to scratch and claw for every point.

He's going to be 25 in a month. We should have a pretty good idea of what he is going to be

- bradster

He is getting to the point but some defensemen take a little longer. He may never be what the Flyers were hoping he would turn out to be.

Thank god. I almost had a heart attack thinking bee needed surgery. Very good news to hear he’s close to return. At minimum, I thought the prognosis on him was weeks as in January.

Absolutely. And the change of scenery probably helped his game. Also let’s see what happens when we get to the more physical part of the season. Or when his knee gives him pause again. Btw. His 5v5 numbers are mediocre.
- Peter Richards

He is still being plagued by his mental gaffs...he has lead directly to 2 recent shorthanded goals by bad cough ups at the blueline. He's been better for sure but it seems when he makes a mistake it's often a catastrophic one.

Because it isnt isolated to just the Flyers. Florida lost Barkov his 1st game back from injury as well. Dallas had Hintz play almost every other game last season because of injuries
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

One guy here and there sure. 3 players in a row? Sorry, that is an issue.

I have to admit I am a little bit interested to see what the lineup looks like with Allison and Farabee.

Basics of the Ellis trade.

Preds wanted out of his 6 year $6.25 contract.

So they took little value in return.
Patrick an injury prone and a not producing player quickly flipped for another struggling player in Glass who has played most of this season in the AHL.
Myers a flawed defenseman who is cheaper than Ellis. Provides depth. Young enough to turn things around. If not, at least they got out of Ellis' contract.

These players are young enough to still get their games on track. But there are issues that limits their value at this point.

Flyers needed a quality vet on D.

Concerns: Ellis will soon turn 31 and is smaller. How he holds up the next 6 years?.....well....not off to a good start.

Also, York is a smaller defensemen. Those 2 in the lineup at the same time at some point could be an issue.

Hasn't happened yet? Why did Nashville trade a 30 year old RH legit top pairing defenseman for Patrick and Myers? Explain that to me?
Niskanen was never a risk to be a long term cap anchor with an injury history.

So couturier is a bad signing? In 11 years with the Flyers he has only played 3 full seasons. He's 29 years old on the decline by your standards for 8 years.

So the only reason a team would be willing to move a guy is because he's declining? Has nothing to do with the fact they have been using Ekholm as a #2 and recently extended him at 6.2 mill per season? GMs also are known to make mistakes and move guys they should have. The fact that one GM wanted to move a guy doesnt mean he's declining.

Flyers were in a free fall. Obviously players would be wanting to rush back and help the team. Injuries have an estimated timeline. Guys can be healthy quicker or later than expected. If the player feels good to go, he plays

What he is really saying is that the players opinion on whether or not he is ready should be irrelevant.

You say you feel great and want to return? Screw you the timeline isn't up yet.

This has nothing to do with Couturier. An NHL team doesn't need multiple top defenseman? You tap danced around the question and did not at all answer why Nashville traded a 30 year top pairing RH defenseman. GM's are know to make mistakes. It seems as though you're not willing to consider that the Flyers GM made a mistake. Again, why did Nashville make that deal for that return? They couldn't get a better deal for a top pairing RH defenseman? Why couldn't they? Bottom line, Nashville wanted out from the contract as he is a risk moving forward. They couldn't get a better deal than that because of that future cap risk. I don't have much faith that he will stay healthy through the life of the contract. With the situation the Flyers are in, it is not a risk they should've taken either.

A large part of determining when a player with that type of injury is ready to come back is feedback from the player.

As a team that is not ready to contend and won't be anytime soon. A failed prospect is better for that team than an aging and declining player with 5 more years left after this year on a 6M cap hit with injury issues.
- MJL

Incorrect. One is dead weight. At least Ellis can assist in teaching others.

Perhaps they thought meyers would turn out better? Isnt that a possibilty? Until they realize he cant grasp simple concepts of coverage. And I assume they wanted Glass. Patrick still had some value as a top pick. There will always be a team that thinks they can make it work with a certain player that failed elsewhere

Whatever game he is supposed to return. Let’s wait an additional two games. Just being safe.
