I'd say Bergevin s biggest flaws were holding on to Timmins and other issues with poor personnel selection for player development. He was good at making trades, but like I said player development, THE most important thing for building a winner, was atrocious.

Anyway, I have no issue whatsoever with taking back Shattenkirk, but the proposed package to do so isn't really that interesting imo. Obviously we're not GMs but I'd say Anderson retained or no retained salary can fetch something more interesting than that ie a bona fide prospect like what we got with Suzuki.

I couldn't agree more. Remove these 2 huge flaws, and Bergevin becomes a top notch GM.

Hey Karine!

Do you want to draft in top3 this summer?

If yes, you should be happy the way they play…

I would say it is "unofficially" official.

Remember, they brought in a guy who sent a letter to Rangers fans telling them to get ready for short term pain for long term gain.

To me that's as close to official as you can get.

oh I get all that, and like I'm saying it's a very likely route, just pointing out that the organization has yet to announce it. Molson already confirmed he was open to the idea and that he knows that fans would understand the process, so I'm expecting them to clearly explain what the plan is once the GM is hired.

I would say it's a case of "your're screwed if you do, and screwed if you don't".

The lack of effort is obviously very concerning. But if they gave 100% effort, they would actually win a few more games, and fans would be pissed cause they would get further away at a chance for the number 1 pick.

Can't wait to see who they pick for new GM. I'm ok with them going outside the box, I just hope they don't go a mile outside the box.

what would you consider as a "mile outside the box"? I think the most unexpected move they could make (and it isn't that unexpected since it has already been brought up) would be to hire a player agent, which wouldn't have me too worried since dealing with players is essentially the GM's main responsibility.

yes it is, actually every Canadian acts like this, with the maple syrup in our hair and poop.
- Pat1993

You should try butter pecan syrup... less split ends and better scalp health.

Can't help you regarding the maple syrup in your poop. Perhaps you should see a gastroenterologist?...

you and your butter pecan syrup

and no the maple syrup in the poop is a good thing, it helps everything get through the intestines, and it leaves a sweet scent in the bathroom after a huge dump.

there is a limit though for teams concerning buyouts, right? is it in terms of a certain amount that can't be exceeded, or the number of contracts that can be bought out every year..?
- Pat1993

Sure, some of them can go. But also, you also need people on the ice too, so some will stay.

If you have cap now, and likely the next few years, try to use it to get extra picks and prospects while they can, before they need to use it on their own players down the road.

this is probably due to a few disturbing failures such as Galchenyuk and Kotkaniemi, but technically the habs should still be able to grab a very good player at #3...

Was it the player or the development?

we can't determine this for sure but the way I see it is most of the effort has to come from the player, and the team is just there to support him and help him find ways to progress... in both cases (Galchenyuk and KK), while I find there is still a lot of room for improvement for the habs concerning drafting and player development, I don't think the organization necessarily "ruined" these guys.

We can debate for all the end of times, but while the player has some responsibility, it was clear from the start both players were not ready for the NHL and needed further development (specifically at center).

I guess cheap contracts and hope for impact was too much of a pull for MB.

I just want that model to end, going forward.

agreed, 100%. wether they were having issues with identifying young talent, developing these players, or both, I hope they'll finally evolve and find a better, more efficient approach.
