too bad, he is one of the few I'd called untouchables

I mean he's in his prime right now, I'm not sure if his value will ever be higher even if the team around him is a dumpster fire and power forwards tend to break down a bit earlier than the more finesse ones... Obviously it has to be a good deal for us.

I'm thinking a D prospect and a 2nd and 3rd. Maybe the Habs take Krappenkirk back .. he's got 1 more yr @ 3.9 but then he's off your books. Could even do a 2nd this yr and next yrs 2nd also. Or this yrs 1st and next yrs 3rd with a prospect... if you were so kind to take Krappenkirk ... just spitballing.

I guess if a team comes up with an insanely good deal they could trade him, but Anderson brings a nice mix of speed and physicality that other players on the roster don't have, they need a guy like him in the lineup.

One more year of Shattenkirk, who probably can be traded at next year's tdl, isn't really problematic if it facilitates a good trade return in the first place

You're not wrong but I counter with:

Chiarot - Savard
Romanov - Wideman
Kulak - Clague

For the right incentives, I see the opposite being true.

Guys that have this year and 1 or 2 more could be coming in and (maybe) bought out in the summer.

there is a limit though for teams concerning buyouts, right? is it in terms of a certain amount that can't be exceeded, or the number of contracts that can be bought out every year..?

That was kinda my thought on it also. No one saw Jamie being the freak he is this soon . and getting rid of Shatty allows us to perhaps resign Manson.. and we have enough young 4-7 D men coming that he is a liability right now for us..

Where as Anderson really solidifies the top 6 for us now and going forward. He, Getz and Terry would be a helluva 1a line depending on how Z and Milano & Raks were going..

Even if you kept Shatty for next yr till the tdl .. I think with a 1st and 3rd along with a solid B+ prospect we could perhaps make this work.

yeah, it's cool if they do win the lottery, but I'm not putting my hopes up. anyway I think it's pretty clear they're bad enough to secure a top 3 pick.

I thought one of the many reasons to can Bergy was to go all in on rebuild. Am I incorrect in thinking that ??

no, it hasn't been made "official" yet but a rebuild is indeed a very strong possibility.

I'd say Bergevin s biggest flaws were holding on to Timmins and other issues with poor personnel selection for player development. He was good at making trades, but like I said player development, THE most important thing for building a winner, was atrocious.

Anyway, I have no issue whatsoever with taking back Shattenkirk, but the proposed package to do so isn't really that interesting imo. Obviously we're not GMs but I'd say Anderson retained or no retained salary can fetch something more interesting than that ie a bona fide prospect like what we got with Suzuki.

I would say it is "unofficially" official.

Remember, they brought in a guy who sent a letter to Rangers fans telling them to get ready for short term pain for long term gain.

To me that's as close to official as you can get.
