I really like the new HNIC panel. They're all good, and I'm in love with Jen Botterill.

It's pretty cool that the Nucks new coach is a massive Leaf fan.

- Zezel

I don't like Botterill. It's dial-a-cliche with zero analysis. I heard Cheryl Pounder on the radio. She was waaaay more insightful.

He's an excellent analyst when he's in the mood.

Which I suppose is part of his charm; it's funny to see him on Overdrive when he has no interest whatsoever in chatting about stuff he doesn't care about.

But I don't think that schtick would go over well on a national hockey broadcast.

Yeah that's probably right

Bowen and Jim Ralph are amazing - I'd take that duo over a Bowen / O'dog pairing to be honest.

Bowen is fairly homerish actually - not in how he calls the game (say like a Jack Edwards in Boston) in that respect he's very fair but when the Leafs score or do something over the top he's next level with the "Holy Mackinaw" etc.

As a Leafs fan I love it, but as a fan of any other team it would be hated big time and places like the CBC have no interest in that.

For whatever reason TSN's and Sportsnet seem to be focused on trying to not tick off non-leaf fans with the broadcast crew for Leaf games - which to me makes zero sense.

CBC does the same but to a much much larger degree in my opinion while ensuring they maintain their image of being very in tune with what society wants right now (or as some call it "woke"). Hence the selections that seem to be made with respect to who no longer has a job on HNIC and who now does.

I would love to hear anyone who loves hockey and knows the game explain to me how the broadcast is better today than it was say a couple years ago (excluding the Don Cherry / coaches corner element).

Half the time now I can't even stand to watch the intermission except to see replays.

Quasi related note - the CBC missed an opportunity with not continuing Coach's Corner with a new host in my opinon. There always seems to be a coach or GM out of a job who would/could provide a pretty entertaining segment. Trots, Boudreau, Burkie all come to mind in recent times. When Trots and Burkie were on some broadcasts they were pure entertainment but imagine if they had their own segment?

Pure Gold Jerry, pure gold!

I mean Boudreau dropped an F bomb at the end of his very first presser as the new coach of the Canucks! lol Yes it was as he was getting up and clearly somewhat accidental but still it's hilarious. I mean he has proven he can filter himself if he really focuses.....lol

Boudreau's response when asked about the "Bruce there he is" chants. That was gold..

For sure. When I first had satellite, Bowen and Neale used to do the games. Total riot, those two together.

To be honest, I couldn't even tell you what they do on HNIC in the intermissions now.

Do they still do Satellite Hot Stove?

With the border collie, its never a leisurely pace. The arms also get a workout when other dogs approach or a kid on a bike or a kid with a basketball.

We've got two border collies. Superb dogs if you have an active lifestyle!

Seems bassackwards. Hire a coach, then a GM a couple days later?

I do like that hire if I'm a 'nucks fan, though. He gets poop done, is a proven winner, and has a ton of experience. I can see the Sedins learning from him.

My cat that lives with his mom now has cat AIDS so he can't be insured, and he's required dentistry. Our vet is good but it still adds up. They should throw in some nitrous for me.
- Zezel

We adopted cats several years back - two brothers from the same litter we were told. Well, they were definitely close. How they could make those claims still seems odd to me since they found them on the streets. It's like finding a scarf on the street and writing a backstory for it - like some awful J. Peterman catalog thing, but I digress.

One of the two cats had FIV when we got him. I mean we'd had this cat for a week before we could tell something was off. The medicine he was on was not good for his bowels nor our floors or anything on them. The disease ate away his teeth, and he died in about 4 months. It cost us $3000, I think, to keep a cat alive for 4 months that we didn't even really get a chance to get attached to. He was beautiful and gentle and sweet, but . . . .

Moral of the story: It's a terrible disease, and I sincerely wish you the best of luck.

- PatC80

Later in the 90s, maybe into the 2000s Bob Cole would start just getting everyone's names wrong. It was starting to go downhill a bit.

The thing I recall was how much I couldn't stand Harry Neale. He had, it seemed, nothing but negativity to spew about the Leafs. I don't think he was really a Leaf-guy.

That said, in hindsight I miss him because he had a lot of great quips. He was pretty funny.

. .. but it still irritates me to no end that we have no Leaf homers broadcasting on TV. I love Bowen. He likes the game of hockey. He calls a good game for both teams, but of course he has an eye for the Leafs.

They're dropping like flies, so it never hurts.
This is exactly why Holl/Dermott were never going to be traded....we didnt have enough depth D.

Probably had to clear the Gabriel trade with Wayne Train first.
