I may be in the minority here but I think Nemeth is very tradeable. He's really not as bad as we make him out to be sometimes. Our team's penalty kill has been firing on all cylinders and he's a huge part of that. He's paired with a rookie or Tinordi 95% of the time which is not an easy thing to do. He has his occasional bad giveaways but his NTC is only 8 teams. That means we can still trade him to 23 other teams. And at $2.5M on a short term deal I don't think he's someone we'd have to throw picks in for someone to take. I can see trading him after this year or next for a late round pick. I think the NTC just gave him the ability to say I don't want to end up in Arizona/Buffalo a year after signing as a free agent.

Wouldn't be surprised if this was the plan all along and Drury got him to agree to sign here for this year by saying we'll give you a decent contract and some say in where you finish it out.

This board has problems with role players. Goodrow, Nemeth and Reaves get the most heat for really no good reason. Like they get paid by us or something haha

Its actually probably more beneficial for us to waive him then buy him out as the difference is only 300k.

I love Reaves and I wish Goodrow was getting paid less for less term but i get why we signed that type of player. But those types of contracts start to add up, especially for a team like us that doesn't have room to work with. Nemeth's contract just confuses me

The idea behind the Goodrow contract is it may suck for a couple years cause it keeps us tight, but in the long run it will work itself out into a good deal.

Look Nemeth isn't great but he wasn't brought in to be great and truthfully he isn't paid like a great player considering the salaries that guys are getting these days. But he's been a serviceable 3rd pairing dman and penalty killer. If he was that atrocious I don't think we'd be playing as well as we are now. I could obviously be wrong but I don't think we'll need to use a buyout on him

I think everyone here now understands Reaves' value.
Nemeth is filling a very necessary role and I have maintained that his contract is tradeable once the time comes.
I haven't seen much that I love about Goodrow at his price point, but I'm reserving judgement as he is definitely a guy they signed with the playoffs in mind.

am i shocked? no, given the way we hand out NMC and NTC. do i think it's dumb as hell? yes
- picklerick

Its not just us- its the market in the NHL but look at how NHL salaries compare to the other three sports. Mcdavid makes 12M or so and Curry makes $43M or so

Role players get paid now. It’s just how the league has developed recently. We coulda paid Nick Ritchie and been really pissed haha

I remember being infuriated when we didn’t resign Brandon Prust because he was an extremely important role player. You have to have them and pay them

I think our biggest issue is Chytil.

tbh, Nemeth is really a non-issue. Are there better bottom pairing defensemen in the league, sure! But this one is ours and hes not inherently terrible. The contract is a bit much but we can deal with that when we need to.

Yea Chytil is baffling. He has moments where he looks terrific then he disappears for stretches. Same with Laf. That kid line was no where to found last night

What’s the point of having an elite goalie if not to “steal” points? Igor Shesterkin is part of this team. Hence the team earned the points. Where would the #NYR be without him? Doesn’t matter! They HAVE him.

I think its time to bench Chytil and give Barron a look between LAF and Gauthier.

I've been trying for patience with Chytil. But, the most frustrating part is how he doesn't look to pass. Lately, he shoots from terrible spots without any apparent thought of finding his wingers.

This is exactly why he can't be a center long term

I would like to try Laf at center and Chytil on the wing. Seems to me that Laf needs more space, on the wing he’s never open. But Chytil has the power and speed to bust through past the d on the wing. I gather that’s difficult tho, having two guys move their natural positions on the same line.

Idk that’s just what my eye test tells me. My eyes suck tho haha

Jujhar Khaira was released from the hospital this morning.

From the Blackhawks: "Despite the significant injury, his prognosis is excellent, and we expect a full recovery. At this point, it is too early to put a timeline on return to play.”

- jimbro83

Except his brain injury will most likely lead to more, easier, brain injuries in a contact sport. The hit was both his fault, as he put himself in a vulnerable position, and Trouba’s as he didn’t need to hit a player in a defenseless position.

Not blaming Trouba, hitting is legal and why we love the game so much, in part.

honestly we were so ravaged with injuries from dirty hits last year, our team fired everyone over the lack of a response, sent out a letter to the NHL that got the team fined 250K, I really don't care about anyone elses problems at this point

Trouba is built like a truck is ultimately why it looked so bad. He did everything you’re taught to do, especially nowadays

He was skating up the ice and lost control of the puck, skating with his head down looking for it trying to regain control and got nailed. The time between him losing the puck, trying to regain it and getting hit is a super human amount of speed and time to react.
