You are usually impartial with your interpretations - have you had a chance to have a look at both hits? What do you see?

Oh I definitely thought Cole was going to get the same suspension as Pionk.

Dangerous hit, but probably dodged the suspension when Scheifele popped back up.

I hate that injury is taken into account when handing out suspensions, but apparently it is.

This game against Seattle tells me all that I need to know. Seems like Wheeler has been on the ice for the entire game. Never seen a coach focus so much on getting one player going!

I noticed the same thing and I am an outsider lol! Total joke! Tortorella to the rescue! Man, what a wake up call that would be to the Jets lol.

Would anyone on this board care to give a summary of ranking where the team is on stats such as high danger shots, PK%, SOG, etc, etc that shows where exactly this team stands in terms of defensive stats? Correct me if I am wrong but has the PK been in the dumpster basically ever since PoMo got here?

I know there are pretty sharp hockey brains here that know how to dig this info up. I mean, we are wasting time, burning up prime year offensive contracts like Scheifle, Helle with this crappy coaching and defensive systems, overplaying declining players like Wheeler.

Just a side note but, in terms of PoMo favoring old timer Wheeler and his ice time, really not much difference there in terms of keeping Huddy in charge of defense. Same analogy really.

I've been in the camp of firing Maurice basically since they got eliminated from the playoffs last year. His old-school style of coaching just doesn't work anymore as the game has evolved. Chipman needs to wake up before a very talented Jets team misses the playoffs.

Even though the Kraken never scored on the PP their zone entry using the drop back system was excellent. Wake up Maurice and adapt ! The cycle the Jets use down low is so old school. They used a top cycle in the early part of the season and it worked very well . Suddenly they reverted back to the old system and went on a losing streak. Fire the whole coaching staff a get some younger new blood in there. The Kraken totally outworked the Jets but last night pure talent prevailed and the Jets won. A talented team with a high work ethic like Carolina proved that the Jets can easily be beaten.

I've run out of time to post more as work calls. More on this to come. Specialty teams are a disaster and will cost us more and more games Fire Maurice !!!!

Thought the penalty kill was much more aggressive in this game than any other game. Hard to gauge when you're playing the expansion Krakens in this yawner.

The game was somewhat similar to the American national anthem singer! Need I say more?

The power play is another story though. Still a work in progress and that's being kind. Seem totally discombombuglated (spelling?). Works best IMO when Connor is on the left side and Scheifele on the right side. Get those "one-timers!"

But like it's been said, if you can't gain the zone, it doesn't matter who's out on the ice. Don't the Jets watch successful power play teams, and maybe try what works?

Probably in practice our PP looks good when playing against our PK? Maybe they think this will carry over into games? I get it that the first power play gets the whole two minutes - when it's working. When it's NOT working, I have a harder time with this!

Penalty kill was more aggressive and that does work.

The Ehlers thing about shooting more is fine , however taking 6 shots a game from impossible angles is just plain stupid and usually, it misses the net and ends up in loss of possession. I can't believe Maurice hasn't pretty much banned him from being stupid like that. Holding the puck and finding a pass or recycling it is a much better move which can lead to a higher percentage opportunity that having a 1/100 chance of scoring from there.

Yea Nik got a late goal to tie a game recently (can't remember against who) from that angle, and ever since he seems to shoot from there all the time. Like you say, not that brilliant of an idea.

But Nik skated hard last night and was one of the better Jet players in my book. Gawd, what would we do without Connor, actually both Connors, Kyle and Helle?

I believe it was Anaheim on a sharp angle, then he got the winner as well in that game.

I am not sure what pizzes me off more, shooting at a bad angle that has no chance of scoring or not shooting the puck when the player is in the slot and should be shooting. In that Carolina game, there should have been at least 4 - 5 shots that were not taken because they trying to make some nifty play.

I tend to err on the side of shoot the puck. But, you need traffic as you don't beat these goalies on shots these days without traffic like the good old days.

The Jets have also struggled against other high work ethic teams such as Ottawa and Montreal in recent years.

When the Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler line are all together, why is it that no other line can get going? Could someone please explain the lack of production amongst the rest of the team?

I think the boys need to practice their breakaway and shootout skills …

I might get lots of disagreement on this. I think one of the major reasons for the injury is that Wheeler has been overplayed. The guy regularly gets over 20 minutes/game no matter how many mistakes/errors he makes. He could have the worst numbers on the team and Uncle Paul will still trot him out. Another one of his favourites is Lowry. Not even golden boy Wheeler was able to get any offence out of the black hole.

I am super disappointed in how Harkins, Svechnikov and Vesalainen have been handled. Svechnikov got less than 4 minutes last night. No reason was given for as to why. Uncle Paul might be a nice guy, however his time here is clearly up. I have been calling for his head for years. I don’t understand how the Jets can be a “draft & develop” franchise, with a coach that likes to play 30+ year olds.

Anyhow, just some Ultimate thoughts for this Saturday afternoon….

I’m not going to disagree with anything except the cause of this injury. Not related to fatigue this time, his leg got rolled up on. His career injury history is incredibly short considering the ice time he has logged. 18 games missed in about 15 years, 5 were this year due to COvId. Fatigue injuries are usually the pulls, strains, and muscle injuries, not so often the structural ones unless it is something like an ankle or foot thing that needs some time to heal.

Once the Big Blue bring the Grey Cup home from Hamilton (a given!), I guess we can get back to hockey, eh?

Any further word on Wheeler? I assume Stastny will be taking Wheeler's spot if Blake can't go. And Gustafsson up from the Moose?

Yes...Go Bombers !

As for Wheeler , I think the prognosis is pretty obvious. It's at minimum a grade 2 tear to the ACL or MCL. It will be months ....not weeks. It is very unfortunate because Blake was just starting to show some real flare again after being reunited with Schief and Connor.

Yea Wheeler probably played his best games the last two-three games. He's a quick healer - hopefully back sooner than expected.

What about 34-16 Bombers?

Speaking of the Bombers. I wish the Jets had a coach like Mike O’Shea. Great at making in-game adjustments and the guy never seems to panic.
