The thing with Stome is all the talk about how we cant afford to resign him because he will get 6-7M a year. Yet we always hear "rumor" he has no trade value, which doesnt make any sense.

If GMs around the league feel his success is because he plays with Panarin, who is gonna give him 6-7M a year?

Whatever the reason is, he and Panarin are great together and need to be kept together. I think Strome knows he is in a great spot, and has never had this kind of success before. I think we can sign him for 5.5M

- ELew11

The backhanded praise Has to stop. When Panarin was not himself at the beginning of the season Strome was producing. When Panarin was out last season on sabbatical Strome was producing. The year before we got Panarin Strome was producing. He was a first round draft choice. With some guys it just takes awhile to find their game at the NHL level. He’s just a good hockey player. A quality 2C with leadership and gritt. Don’t (frank) around- sign him or we will regret it because he wont be easily replaced

Glad to see Jan and some others here are coming around on Ryan Reaves. The man has simply helped changed the culture and mindset of the ENTIRE TEAM.

Guy hits everything in sight ( mostly clean too! ) and instills a quiet confidence in his teammates. For the season he has only 1 fight and 3 minors. Can't wait to see him lay out SlewFoot Subban before the season is over too!

Best 3rd round pick we ever gave up, and now you can see why he immediately got his one year extension.

Are you trying to say that Reaves could possibly have more of an impact on this team than Howden did????

He should teach Kreider how to handle the puck, maybe Zib would have a few more goals.

He doesnt really have trade value because the GM's know he has a special connection with Panarin. Sure, many centers in the league could play with Panarin, but why poke the bear?

I saw an article out few days ago about how it could be in the Rangers best interest to let Strome hit free agency because he may not get the kinds of offers that his agent might want. This could work in our favor to land him at a fair value.

- aecliptic

That theory would only work in a league where there are no idiotic GMs who would be willing to overpay him. The NHL is not that league.

When was the last time you were this confident about a team, Jim? I think 2013 or 2014 when they had those deep cup runs.

If we are so compelled to do something about the face off issue in a conventional way- It must be addressed at the 3C in my opinion. In my view it is very overrated but of course it helps to win draws. Its mostly not the reason you win or lose as evident by our start this year.

I’m for keeping strome. If they can lock him up 5-7 years at $5.75 it would be a steal

you are right trouba is not just a waste of cap space...he is a waste. The NHL's amateur refs once again show inability to call a game honestly.

Let me know when the chin is no longer considered part of the head. This was an illegal check of a vulnerable player. His forearm does NOT target or hit the chest. and don't give me the poop about his head down...he did not have control of the puck.

5 min major and gone; at least make the call and review it...suspension should be looming.

I think pretty much most of us said it last year plenty of times. We didnt have any issue with resigning Strome as long as the money is right.

Everyone keeps talking about the forearm and elbow. This should settle that.

Was it legal under the current set of rules? Looks like it. Should they take another look at the rules and tweak them so this sort of thing happens less? Probably

And that was typically backed up by, if Strome stays then Chytil needs to be replaced by a solid 3 zone center. Had hope for him at the start of the season, but think that’s the obvious spot to upgrade right now.

That's not the way I remember it.
There has been constant noise about Strome's deficiencies and he has been involved in a million trade proposals.

The Blackhawks traded Panarin to the Columbus Blue Jackets along with Tyler Motte and a sixth-round pick in 2017 in exchange for Brandon Saad, Anton Forsberg and a fifth-round pick in 2018.

remind me- how did this work out for you?

Well, that 5th round pick did turn into Mikael Hakkarainen who is currently in Sweden not scoring, so...
