Tought Farabee went back to school, agree it is not but it is a long shot for 1, let alone 3.
- wcorvette

Yes, you're right, my bad. Farabee was drafted in 2018 and started playing with the Flyers the following year.

SO the general jist I am getting from the genius future GM's in here is that we can solve all our problems by trading our old vets and young not so good prospects for other teams good prospects and high draft picks.

Seems legit and totally reasonable to me.

If they can manage to draft a true #1 then Provy can be part of the solution as a really good #2.

If not, and they continue to have to spend money/assets on veteran/declining dmen, the team is never gonna be competitive. Ellis is good but he's not going to be healthy for long. Risto is gonna be way too expensive for what he brings. Sanheim seems to have hit a hard ceiling to his career and he's no longer value against the cap. York isn't #1 caliber.

IMO, all their struggles have stemmed from the back-end. Their de facto #1 guy is holding them back in transition. They need somebody who is dominant in that respect or the forwards will always be at a disadvantage.

100%. On point.

Yes, I'm a fan of O'Brien (maybe my local Boston bias is kicking in here I admit) but to spend a top 20 1st round pick on a project when there were players on that board available that could be helping you right now (hello K'Andre Miller!) was not the right move. Hextall had this thing about himself in regards to drafting, and maybe other areas too, where he thought he was the smartest guy in the room, and I don't think it served him very well.
- jd250

Good point. Maybe a late second early 3rd or something like that. I was calling for Isac Lundestrom or K'Andre Miller. Both looking pretty decent in the NHL right now.

I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't know your stance on this. What do you suggest they do to right the ship?

When was the last time an NHL team gave up 7 goals in consecutive games under 2 different head coaches?

Is there ANY chance this team gets blown up?

If not, is it because Fletcher would feel the need to try to be competitive? Or could he keep his job during a full on Process?

- DrMidnite

Always a chance but highly unlikely. Unless Fletcher gets fired and the new guy does. I just don't ever see ownership tolerating it.

Side note …was I the only fan to watch last night and think “how the (frank) do you draft Patrick over Makar”?
This is not meant to bring up our waste of a pick, but wow. Makar is like an elite talent dman…one you can win cups with. All I know is I’m glad I don’t have to watch him play the Flyers very often. Guys like to throw around the word transition….pretty sure this guy would solve a lot of those problems

That's a reset? So our team is still JvR, Hayes, Farabee, Laughs, an aging Atkinson, Frost, and Lindblom at forward?
- therabbi

No, I don't see any way the Flyers can bring back JVR for sure. Lindblom and Frost may also be assets if the right deal presents itself. I am not ready to give up on Farabee, I think he is player you build around. I am afraid we are stuck with Hayes and Laughts, however if we can develop or accumulate enough top end talent both can add valuable depth to the team and thus still be productive.

I know the hindsight is 20/20 argument, but anyone who actually watched or scouted UMass games while Makar played there could see this guy was going to be a top end defenseman in this league. How Hextall could opt for an injured power center when there is an elite top tier defenseman like Makar on the board is just unthinkable IMO.

Wait, come on ... this is just ridiculous. Are you trying to tell me that if the Flyers trade G at the deadline they are not going to get multiple high picks including a 1st round pick? Do you also think that Risto will not garner a 1st round pick if he is dangled at the deadline? Come on, history alone should tell you contending teams will trade their future for a chance to win now, and both these players can seriously help push a team over the top!

Makar played for the Brooks Bandits of the AJHL in his draft year. It was somewhat risky to take Makar 4th overall due to the competition he was playing against. But yeah, great pick up for Colorado.

The post wasn’t about the blown pick but more of just how good this kid is. I mean he was the 5th pick over all and is going to be a true Norris candidate for the next 6-7 years …scary good.

You don't know these things for sure. Ellis is having his struggles with health right now, but who is to say he does not regain his health and plays well moving forward? Also, I don't know what York will be, but to say he is not number 1 caliber right now is a stretch. I mean McAvoy is a number 1, but who is to say York could not develop into a player like him? However overall I agree with you, this team needs a Cale Makar, and so does every other team that does not have one.

Hakstol made ghost a healthy scratch very often too. It goes to show you the environment here is broken & that falls on team captain.

Singling out AV is hilarious but I guess ppl want to blame who they want to blame

I thought they played their best game in 10 games. Unfortunately Martin Jones played his worst game all season.

The only real adjustment I saw was probably not Yeo’s idea at all. Giroux at center and Giroux on the left side of the power play. Giroux, Couturier and Hayes makes us strong down the middle. Forget about G on wing.

Sure, why not? Philly is as good a place to play as anywhere else. There are Adam Foxes out there, and there are players as good as Panarin out there. The key is finding them and developing them.
- jd250

They had their shot at Panarin and never made an attempt....Fox wanted to be a NYR and nothing else , you can ask yourself why you never hear anyone saying I want to be a Flyer....add a trade of Brassard for Zibanejad ..Strome for Spooner and you have 4 guys acquired through trade or FA....You know what they gave up for those 4 players f ( Derek Brassard...Ryan Spooner...and 2 second rd draft picks) You cant just do it on draft alone have to use all the tools to rebuild

Yes, but my point was he was scary good at UMASS. I know this because I live here and got to watch him live and talk to scouts at the games. I truly thought going into that draft that Hextall would blow everyone's mind and take Makar, because that was his MO, being smarter than everyone else in the room on draft day. So imagine my surprise when Hextall went safe and picked the consensus pick instead of the best player on the board. That was the moment and day I checked out on Hextall.

As soon as the Av's went up 3-1, the Flyers took a penalty. They proceeded to let Cale Makar skate the puck 200ft uncontested and score. That right there epitomizes this team. No discipline, no sense of urgency, and zero compete. This franchise is a joke.

Agreed on Provys passion but he seems to be a guy that is mentally fragile. His errors compound and he’s inconsistent. When he’s on he’s a great Dman but when things are going bad he does nothing to steady the ship.
- ClaudeFather

I don't think he's mentally fragile. It's the culmination of having to play game in and game out, often without an equal top pairing partner on a team that lack defensive detail and support.

I was thinking the same about Jones but man, those shots were picking corners. Yes, he could make some of those saves but a team in this funk does not get those saves. For the Avs it was skill and luck, it all went their way
