This is an example of correctly projecting what a players ceiling is and determining if they are going to become a top talent in the league or just another player. If the Flyers feel Frost's ceiling is not that high but is still an asset other teams may want, you have to use that to get you closer to landing some top end talent. I like what I have seen from Frost since he has been called up, but so far he has not shown to be anywhere close to an untouchable part of the Flyers' future.
- jd250

This team has ZERO untouchables. The issue is when we trade G and RR. We will get a pick in the late 20s most likely. Need to parlay that and move up. Try and get a top 5 pick. Or go the prospect route and land a good prospect who might be ready to contribute next year

I hate to break it to anyone but they are out of the playoffs now.

And the coach that did not want to utilize his talents is gone 21 games into the season

Hakstol made ghost a healthy scratch very often too. It goes to show you the environment here is broken & that falls on team captain.

Singling out AV is hilarious but I guess ppl want to blame who they want to blame

I have serious fear about his size. He just looks like a waif out there. I mean, Giroux has always looked small and obviously he has had long successful(personally...not team wise) career, but Frost looks even smaller to me. Bring in Johnny Hockey and pair them together with Atkinson. I'm just babblin now and have to run.

I agree with your last sentence.

I don't think Fletcher thought that Cam was slower and less skilled than Jake, and to be honest I didn't either. Cam just has a different skillset that at the time was thought to be a better fit, i.e. tenacious on the forecheck, shoot first mentality and good on the PK. Though I have seen flashes of these things from Cam, to be honest I am really disappointed in his play overall so far.

As far as Risto, sure, he is not Cake Makar or Adam Fox or even Charlie McAvoy. But Risto still is IMO a good defenseman that adds an element to the backend that every team needs. I would love to keep Risto on this team, but for me the reality has sunk in that this team needs a complete reset, and Risto is an asset that right now we can't afford to keep. Given his contract status and given what he might be asking for, and given where this Flyers team is, the time is not right to commit to a player like Risto IMO. Thus I have concluded trading him along with TK and G are the best options for this team to reset in the offseason.

- jd250

If you want to contend in the next 5 years you keep Risto. I still think over all he can play better, on a consistent basis. But I like his skating, his physicality and size. He moves the puck very well and has great mobility for a big guy. He’s exactly what the Flyers needed back there. Someone to keep the other team honest.

What is going on with Coots?
Last 13 GP: 0 g, 2 a, -9

We all know that all the home growns and FA experiments from JvR to Hayes to Konecny to Lindblom to Laughs and Farabee are all bottom six players, but Coots is our legit top center. He gets plenty of ice time, he gets G on the wing, plenty of offensive zone starts, and he looks easier to take off the puck than Frost.
Is he injured or something?
If we do a real rebuild, which we should, is he worth more as picks and prospects?

- therabbi

Wow. If your 4th line center was putting up those numbers he'd be in the press box. (Unless of course your name is Nate Tombstone).

You're contradicting your earlier premise. You went on a rant that it's about skill and speed. The GM made a serous error in not considering the transition game.

He's a mediocre defenseman overall and you can find 3rd pair defenseman who bring a physical element. That is not what this team needed. Again, it needed transition and puck moving. You use your best bullets to get top needs or you don't use them. The GM again, screwed up here.

Yes the 2022 draft is looking pretty good. The 2023 draft is looking deep so far as well. This would be a good time to load up on draft picks and look to create a bright future.

Unfortunately we traded our 2nd round pick to Arizona to dump Ghost and traded our 2023 2nd round pick in the Risto trade.

People can laugh all they want at Arizona but they're going to be adding some serious talent this draft. Three 1st round picks and five 2nd round picks. Possibly 2 picks in the top 5. I wish.

- dubc55

The way we have been drafting with our 2nd rounders lately, it wont hurt us any that we traded it. Ginning, Ratcliffe and Leberge say hi.

I expect that he has an injury that he's playing through. Something that won't get worse with not resting. If that's the case though, he should sit. Let him get back to health

Untouchables is a term used far to often. Wayne Gretzky was traded near his peak. If it’s Fletch running the show he either needs to stick with his plan and do a reset or tear it down. Do you really think the Flyers would ever tear it down? Easy answer. Look at the long term contract they are invested into with guys that will play them out into their mid 30’s.

Flyers keep their losing streak going, and Keith Yandle's all important ironman streak. No matter how bad he plays, it's apparently against the law to bench him.

Such a serious error lol. You think we'd be in a playoff spot with Jake? I would argue we would have an even worse record without Cams goals.

Kevin Hayes was a bad signing IMO, he was big and slow before his injuries and he looks even slower now. But it was an area of need given what happened with Patrick and I believe AV had a lot to do with targeting Hayes, which was unfortunate. Like I said in another post, not recognizing where the game was going and making inappropriate personnel decisions. The Rangers and the Jets proved to be much smarter than the Flyers in this instance, no doubt about it.

You made the comment that moves like Panarin and Fox are out there to be made. One of the differences between you and I is that I like to look at the facts. We can look at the UFA free agent lists for the next couple of seasons in advance. Making a educated guess that players like McKinnon are going to be resigned, there are no UFA forwards on the horizon equal to the skill level of Panarin that are 28 years old, in their prime that will be available. Sure, Patrick Kane at 36 might be available. As far as FOx. He was a 21 year old undrafted UFA that in two years developed into a Norris trophy winner. I appreciate your optimism but the reality is that you make posts in candy land with visions of unicorns and snow princesses dancing around. Moves equal to that falling into the Flyers laps are extremely unlikely.

It has nothing to do w speeches. It’s leading by attitude & effort. Not scoring 2 goals in a game & still being a minus 1
- Fopa21

He was a minus 1 because of the goalie. I guess it's Giroux's fault that Jones had a bad game.

You’re clueless & wrong but no one on here needs me to point that out they already know.

Your man crush provy is supposed to be good offensively at transition game. Top pair from what you tell us.

Your still young tons of potential Sanheim is also supposed to be good offensively at transition game. Second pair from what you tell us.

Those 2 have shown incapable of playing D so how many “puck movers” do you want? Do you want no one who plays D just offense offense offense. We just saw it last night 7-4 no thanks.

Just a Risto hater which is fine but at least admit no matter what he does you won’t approve of him at least that is respectable than to just bash him no matter what he does

AV is a very good coach. Hakstol even with his inexperience was a good coach. Some players and coach’s just don’t work well together. The Flyers need to find that guy that gets the most out of this group or change the group. It’s always been a lot easier to change the guy.

Okay. Lets give you that so you don’t have to have that be on your precious captain. So he scores 2 goals & is an even hahah much better

I just wonder why he doesn't have the fanfare of McDavid....isn't he breaking his OHL records?
- DrMidnite

Wright kind of had a slow start. Now he's looking 1st overall worthy.

If we end up picking in the 3rd to 8th slot, I like Matthew Savoie from Winnipeg of the WHL. Savoie has 41points in 25 games. Still a lot of season to go but he's looking deadly. Possible Giroux replacement? Maybe.

Really? Even if you dont know what the return is? Thats a bold statement. If you can a top 10 pick for frost you would say no to that? Thats crazy talk and shows how you always over value the flyers own players.
