Risto was the bright spot on D last night, he looked good. Provy, not so much.

Really? Are you sure? I'm shocked!

Sad but true. Would you consider trading Giroux then resigning in UFA.
- 3flyerkids

Great question! I thought about this and just my opinion, I would not resign him. This team needs to move on and start fresh. As much as I love G, I think he is part of the problem here, and its time this team goes forward into next season with a new captain and a new identity.

Well, I hope all watched the game last night and if so I hope a HUGE dagger of reality sunk in while you watched. This Flyers team has no where near the speed, skill nor depth to compete with any good team in this league. Last night looked like an NHL team playing a high school team, and guess which one the Flyers were? At one point it literally looked like speed boats playing against ocean liners. Did you all see that end to end rush from Cale Makar? Wouldn't he look nice in a Flyers uniform instead of the walking migraine? Or did you see that goal from Landeskog, where the puck was not on his stick for 1/2 second before it went top shelf off the rush?? No coach can fix a lack of speed and skill, No coach! The only good thing that happened last night was Giroux got a couple of goals, increasing his stock as the deadline approaches. If I am Fletcher, I would be asking, even begging Giroux to waive his no-trade clause now and I would begin discussions with other teams to start the bidding war, before G gets hurt and this opportunity goes away. The Flyers need a huge reset and it should start with the 2022 draft. Best case scenario, Fletchers gets 2 1st round picks from deadline trades plus his own which has the potential to be top 10, and he drafts 3 players that can play the modern game starting next season!

Colorado is definitely a quicker team and a more skilled team. I don't think the discrepancy is as wide as you label it. The Makar goal was a skilled play but the Flyers let him skate right up the ice. Provorov buys a shift to the inside, makes a bad cross over stride and Makar is right by him. Provorov is struggling right now but he will bounce back.
Now is not the time to trade Giroux. There is too much of the season left and too much on his deal left. If he is moved it will have to happen closer to the deadline.

It is absurd to say that Giroux is part of the problem.

You'll also get a better deal at the deadline for G. Too much of his contract left for this year. Only so many teams that could fit him in now.

Also think RR might be our best D man this year. He has had a couple of clunkers that really bring down his stats. But other than those few games, he has been pretty good.

Is there ANY chance this team gets blown up?

If not, is it because Fletcher would feel the need to try to be competitive? Or could he keep his job during a full on Process?

I agree, its the usual beat up on the fletcher picks, but Provy at his salary needs to be much better.
- bradster

Nah, not in my case at least. But that guy did not look like an NHL d-man. Why not Egor or Linus instead of this guy?

Define blown up? You mean G, RR and JVR moved? I can totally see that.
If you mean Provy and Farabee. I dont think so
On the fence with TK, Sanheim, Scotty. I could see those guys moved if the price is right.

I really don't know. If the losing streak gets to record proportions which it's looking like it will, then we're out of the playoffs by the turn of the calendar. You get half empty buildings from January to April and the pressure is on. G, RR perhaps some others go out the door. What I am most worried about is that Hart begins to melt down here as this reeks of last year. You have to build from the net out, and with his confidence shot the org may lose patience which I think is a huge mistake. He can't be blamed for the absolute mess in front of him.

I just feel like we're delaying the inevitable....I would LOVE to be in their war-room when these decisions are made....

Why does this mentality of FLYER HOCKEY continue without Snider's involvement? It's bizarre.

Yeah. Their chances of making it are minimal unless they rip off a 10 gamer or more and that's not happening.

They were sunk from the Jersey game, that was a must win after that florida trip. And we came out flat.

Yes, this. I would not move Provey or Bee, but the other names you listed like TK and Sanheim, absolutely. If you could somehow get something for JVR that would be a jaw dropper to me. I think if the decision is made to blow this up, RR and G are your big ticket deadline sales.

I don't see this franchise ever truly blowing it up. There's still that mentality that the Flyers should be in a position to contend for the Cup every year, and as we saw during Hextall's time at GM, you can't really do what's necessary to get it right while still being competitive. And if you think Fletcher really has any say in the matter, then you haven't really payed attention to how this franchise has been run since its inception.

I just don't see this organization going through a period of pain like we saw from 89-94 unless those who pull the strings suddenly open up their eyes to reality. And with the franchise being viewed as the Charlestown Chiefs by Comcast, why would they?

You could be right. Is a majority of the fan base ready for another 5 year rebuild? The team hasn't been relevant now for more than a decade.

Do we have a choice? I'd rather start the rebuild NOW then wait until the off season.

Isn't this years & next year's draft stacked? Maybe it's all for the best.

If we started the rebuild now, we'd still finish before Hextalls plan would've finished.
Lets do it.

I heard that. I expect the moves won't start until the deadline. I don't know how deep you cut either. You start moving out Bee, TK, Provy Frost you'll get assets for sure but that might lengthen the process. Maybe you try to re set by trading young player for young player.

I just COVET Shane Wright....could you imagine?

I'm all about trading for other NON PLAYOFF TEAMS first round picks = higher percentage in the lottery.

The team's identity died when the NHL implemented the salary cap. The Ed Snider method of throwing money around until the team's problems went away was no longer a viable option, and sadly, this lesson still hasn't been learned by anyone in the organization.

While every GM has their faults, can you really blame them when the organization still holds the belief that more money = success? That's why I never really understood the Hextall hire as it was pretty obvious that his philosophies didn't really align with what the Flyers have always done (and still continue to do today).

Old habits die hard, but until this organization understands that throwing money at your problems isn't a solution in today's game, you're going to continue witnessing a franchise that is mediocre at best.

- BaronVonShiznit

I do agree with you the salary cap definitely had something to do with it. But they did have success after the salary cap was put in place. What is really missing is players with character and leadership. Pronger was a game changer on and off the ice. I have stated before when hak was coach that pronger should be brought here as an assistant. It would be great if the flyers could have one of these stars. But you can win as a committee. I look to the bruins as an example.

I just wonder why he doesn't have the fanfare of McDavid....isn't he breaking his OHL records?
