I agree. I'm not saying a rebuild can't or won't happen. But I'll believe it when I see it.
- Pelle31Forever

I disagree with your agreement, and agree with your skepticism.

The disagreement is that fans are ready for a total rebuild. Rebuilds are long, and what happened the last few weeks needs to be tolerated for months, and indeed years, without any guarantee that the pain will pay off. A year or two at most down the rebuild, fans will get impatient. Look already at the teeth-gnashing, even though, honestly, this is the best that could happen to us in the long run.

And I do agree with your skepticism but not for the reasons that Comcast is inept. Indeed, I believe they have done a masterful job of running the franchise. They bought the club to obtain a somewhat anachronistically feudal franchise and fanbase. Franchise value has soared, they have obtained downstream programming for their channels, Xfinity Live! is very profitable, and the stadium attendance has been close to the best in the league.

I think they can get by for a few more years with the same strategy. They can get another coach, they can fire Fletcher, they can claim injuries to older players and inexperience of younger ones. They can shuffle some pieces when the fans get a little restless.

And its not like they have much choice, really, even if they wanted to go against their economic interests (and I really don't see why they should). Ellis is signed for 5 years after this. Hayes and Couturier have NTCs. Provorvov and TK have fairly long, fairly expensive deals, and all of them are far closer to mediocre than elite in the positions they play/are projected (as 1st liners).

Sure, why not? Philly is as good a place to play as anywhere else. There are Adam Foxes out there, and there are players as good as Panarin out there. The key is finding them and developing them.
- jd250

It is a great place to play. Unless you want to win a cup. Or play with players who have offensive skills.

Until the 19/20 season, the Flyers average attendance didn't waiver much. Really nothing to do with what Comcast has done. Are there any NHL franchises that have not risen in value over the years? I do agree that the fans will never stomach it. It will only be the best thing that can happen if the team wises up. I don't believe they will.

Fans will be impatient no matter what. We're tired of failing all these years and that we have no management that can figure out a formula that works. We've tried everything but tanking.

Flyers picked up a defender today from the Panthers off of waivers. Probably already their 4th best defender ahead of Yandle and Seeler.

Bad drafting or bad player development? Which ever it is the Flyers need to fix it.
- landros 2

I really wonder about our development. How do the Pens play so many young guys and we don’t?

It is pretty simple - if you do not win or tie a game, you have lost that game. This is not rocket math or brain English; simpletons should understand it!

He also has at least one goal against the Flyers, if not more -- will never score in Orange and Black

Flyers claimed defensemen Kevin Connauton off waivers. He's better than Seeler at least.
- PLindbergh31

Why not Zamula or Honigberg? Guy seems like another retread. Not impressed with Brown, Seeler or Yandle. If we suck, let’s see what the young guys can do. Bring up Maxim and Sandin too.

Flyers have a bunch of road games coming up. They need to have a 7th defenseman. Aren't going to call up a kid for that.

I was really referring to the fact that they managed to fill that stadium while icing a bubble team and selling it as more than that. Maybe masterful was too strong... competent might be more accurate 😂

Well, they can't tank now even if they wanted to. Those contracts are not going anywhere.

Only 1 thing can change the pretty predictable dynamic of the club next 5-7 years. If there are key injuries like Ellis and we get locked into long skids like the current one for several years and we end up drafting high repeatedly. The "inadvertent tank"

That seems pretty unlikely to me.

I get a kick out of fans that say they're tired of waiting and then advocate for a plan of action that is only to likely cause them to wait longer.

We need to see what we have in them. There is no perfect opportunity. These guys have been traveling and playing for many years. Neither is even from North America. I think they will appreciate the chance.

Right. Because a guy from Russia and another one from Sweden can’t handle travel within North America. They’re dying to play and will appreciate the opportunity.

Well, they were fatigued by a waiting process already that was both long and abstract.

I am praying for Ellis' ill health, or at least, his absence from the line up. That is the glue that has come off.

I would disagree with that description. I also would never root for a player to remain injured and not be able to play. To each his own though.
