Last night was the first night since I can remember where we dictated the play by being aggressive on the puck. The fastest I can remember this this looking. And the most communication I heard on the rink mics and saw between players. These things didn't appear from out of nowhere. They were being stifled.

I know it's only one game but it was a nice change to watch these guys being led to play the game the way it was meant to be played.

It was a fun game BUT kings suck and were on a back to back. Let’s see if they get blown out by BOS

You lost me when you showed stats from last year As for the Corsi he starts almost 60% of the time in the Dzone on a bad posession team. It's to be expected. I also view defensive Corsi as a team stat as opposed to individual.

If you noticed, last night with the team establishing a forcheck there was far less pressure on the back end. Less speed for the Kings through the neutral zone. With defensive puck pressure there was more time to break out. You see, Defense is a team game.

Lol. Is it because the team is so much different from last year, or Myers is a completely different player after the summer? I can only use what's freely floating on the internet as I don't have access to the high-end websites, and 1/4 of a season isn't a great measuring stick either (and 1 game is an especially bad measuring stick).

Of course, the team game is a huge part of a players success or downfall. 100% agree, I have never argued against that, and the overall defense of a team is a 5 man unit. But all the Canucks have been playing on a bad team, and Myers was not a good part of a bad team. Individually, Myers is not a good defender, especially in relation to what he is paid and what he is expected or thought of to bring.

It's like Sbisa. Everyone bemoaned all the lazy passes up the middle. No one championed all the passes that he made that weren't those. Or the good plays he made. Or that other players also didn't make those bad passes. But overall he made more of those poop plays than his type of player reasonably should be expected to. Myers makes fine plays and plays D fine most of the time, but he also makes more chaotic and poorly decided plays and idiotic D plays than someone of his stature/paycheck/ability should.

I didn't watch the game, so I have no opinion on how he played last night.

Yeah, that's the vibe I was getting. I respect Yorky because he can discuss differences in opinions without it quickly devolving into insults and name calling....which is why I'm patiently trying to teach him the finer points of the game.

First post post-Boudreau.

I'm going to try and mirror Bruce's optimist approach around that hotel fire alarm and hope for the best for a while. I've been so negative and sour on the boys I'd say since the Toffolo/Tanev/Markstrom offseason.

I really don't care if they have a winning record from here on out or not. Just to see them play a different style is a welcome change. Tapping Boeser for a PK, like whatever maybe it doesn't work but at least to see someone try. The season is lost let's see what they got.

I didn't catch the game last night but a telling text from my mom, who watches hockey but still struggles with offside, for context. She said it was the best game she's watched in years and had nothing to do with the score. I think sometimes those who know less and just use the eye test can be more valuable insight than all the analytics.

I guess time will tell if Benning made some good picks (I think he did) and it was coaching/systems/the mix or if those players just overachieved early. Regardless, he was incompetent as a GM when it came to asset management and always should have been leading a scouting team at best.

Now back to positive ... go bruce, go nucks!

He needs a lot of help. Something magical is about to happen w Myers. He will play 5 minutes less a game and all of a sudden the mistakes often due to fatigue will be reduced. It’s crazy I know

If there were two better right side D than Myers, and he was playing 3rd pairing, PP2 and a bit of PK he would probably look good, especially if his salary was on par with that role.

It’s like Sutter. At $4.5m for a 4th line winger and PK specialist he was trash, as a $1.15 4th line C and PK specialist (even though he’s “injured”) he’s good value.

So he'll be played like the 3rd pairing defenseman he is? Glad you agree

I didn't come in here to start it, didn't even start with the stats. Happy Benning and Green are out. I was the one posting the uplifting Bouds stats and info earlier

- NewYorkNuck

sorry NYN, I wasn’t pointing fingers at you, it was being projected to all that don’t look at extenuating circumstances.

Green was a massive extenuating circumstance to the players.

Not really. Every criticism I've read about him is that his game diminishes when he get played beyond his (I think they said 18 mins. was his bench mark) comfort zone. He's not a 1-2 defenseman.

17-18 minutes is how he has been deployed the most effectively throughout his career, it's a good adjustment

? I’m not a Myers fan. I just think that people that say he sucks because Dim Jim gave him too much $ aren’t smart. Good on Myers for Fleecing Jim

Was it good on LE too?! Pretty sure pointing overpriced and poor value contracts has alwayd been the number one debate on this board.

Tyler Myers played the 2nd most minutes of the Dmen at 18:42 and finished +2. He and OEL at +2 were the only pairing to finish above even.
- Load Management

I thought that was Myers best game of the season. I think Bruce might dumb things down a bit for the players compared to Green's "complex/detailed" system and make it easier for a guy like Myers who doesn't have the best hockey sense at times.

I don't think he's going to suddenly start fully living up to that contract, but maybe some baby giraffe steps toward doing so.

Myers is an NHL player. Any team would take him for the right salary. Loui was not. HUGE (frank)ing difference
