What they need to do is trade away G and other young roster players for meaningful draft capital. They have to load up like no tommorow. So get rid of anyone that nets positive value. Keep around the hayes, jvrs, atkinsons and sign 1 year ufas for a few years and pick no less than 6 times in the first 3 rounds for the next 3 years.

The next 5 years are a wash and a complete waste. Have to accept that

I don’t think so….they are tied to two 30 year old centres for the next 6-7 years and Ellis for the next 6….I think they bought the Fletcher plan and now must live with it.

It’s insane to think that we are literally in the worst position of any team in the league. Buffalo is in better shape than this dump of an organization.

Coots and Hayes just have them around until the ship starts straightening out. Then get something for Coots.

The same people questioning if Comcast ahas learned their lesson are the same people who support G & the decade of crap. Kettle & pot?

I don’t blame Giroux for getting old and slowing down…I blame the Flyers for not building a better team around him.

It’s always been about the team. This organization has iced a bubble team for a decade straight.

With an expiring contract there is no way the should hold onto G at the deadline. They need all the assests they can get.

If they want to bring him back next year, fine but they need those deadline assets.

How could you allow Chuck Fletcher to make any more moves after this start? He needs to be removed immediately.

Yup, I blame Hextall. HE wanted to remain competitive while 'rebuilding'....it doesn't work.

What we need to do now should have been done years ago.....now look at us. We have virtually nothing.

I really hope Yeo is only still here because calling up Lappy to be interim for tonight would have been even worse.

I love Tocchet as a player, meh as coach.

Torts would probably provide some fire for a bit but honestly aren't most of his tactics similar to AV anyway when it comes to handling the players?

Not at all.

Flyers will be fine. They have plenty of young talent and long term don't have a bad cap situation at all.

They definitely need to make some roster moves to salvage this season. Will likely involve a trade or two. Players like Brown, Bunnaman and Seeler need to be swapped for more talented options currently on the Phantoms.

Whether Giroux is one of those trades we make at some point this season is the great question surrounding this team right now, not a "rebuild".

Now what? It’s been almost a decade since the Flyers had a contender. When Homer jettisoned the two young star centres out of town and brought in 4 really good players as a result. It appeared the Flyers had a chance to really build a strong team. But since then we had the Hextall era and it’s failings and now the Fletcher era that despite the effort to bring this team back to relevance is clearly not working. I’m actually really disappointed that AV didn’t work out. I’m disappointed that Giroux’s time here will be coming to an end. But what disappoints me the most is Fletcher implemented his plan and it to looks to be a failure on a bunch of levels….three straight poor GM performances has this team where it’s at today.

I'm more annoyed by his recent press conference than anything. I never believed that Fletcher was going to be able to wheel and deal this team to contention. He was mandated to do so by upper management. That's where the real issue lies.

It's not a surprise that Tocchets name is being thrown out there.

Corporations like Comcast often pick people who have name recognition.

They know they are failing so dangle a carrot on a stick like a old Flyer favorite, Rick Tocchet.

It's an attempt to get on the fans positive side and hope the empty seats don't take over the final months of the season.

This ship is sinking and Comcast wants the fans and their money stay on board.

This.

Giroux takes a ton of heat for things he’s really had no control over. He’s not free of blame but I could’ve told you 7 years ago that this franchise relies far too heavily on one impact player to carry them.

Long term their cap situation is awful. The Flyers find themselves in the worst possible situation a team can be in.

I am not ready to call Fletcher's tenure here a failure, not yet. He made some good moves in his first off season to get this team back, including hiring who at the time was considered the best head coach available. Last year happened, and more moves were made this past off season, which I still think where good moves. Fletcher tried to make this group successful and enable them to go on a legitimate run and it just hasn't worked out. The players quit on their coach which I saw last year also and Fletcher was forced to make a change, and clearly far sooner than he planned on doing so. To me, if Fletcher comes to the conclusion that this team just does not have the talent to seriously contend in today's game and uses this season to clean house and start a full rebuild, I would say he is on the right path to ultimate success.

That’s a terrible read on their end then. If anything Flyers fans want outsiders at this point. More in house bs is only going to drive people further away.

Yes they have. I used to look forward to watching them play. The last time I was really excited was when they drafted Patrick. But after watching what he became, it’s just one disappointment after another.

It’s a hard concept apparently but again upper management has nothing to do with compete levels. Blame them for bad trades signings etc -which is laughable but they have ZERO to do with millionaires showing effort but haters will hate I suppose
