I’ve been saying it since last year and I’ll continue to say that it’s time for this team to seriously consider stripping the “C” from Giroux. It may be more symbolic than anything but it’s clear nothing has changed going back to that disastrous 2018-19 season when the GM and coach were fired, save for the second half play of the 19-20 season.

Since 2013, they’ve changed coaches and GMs multiple times and seen the owner change. The one constant has been Giroux as the captain. In that time, they’ve known nothing but inconsistency and it’s not like they haven’t had good players over that span. Fletcher’s moves to shake up the locker room I believe was still the right one, but it may need to go further (whether CF is still here in the off-season). A new captain might be a small step, but I think it’s the right one. It’s clear once this franchise gets in a rut, they can’t dig their way out… I put part of that on the captain.

Yea, strip the C off of one of the all time top players in the organization and make it about him. Great idea.

And Rod turned into a fixture in Carolina and they won a Cup with him.

I just don't know how they shipped that guy out. He was a great Flyer. And to do it in order to keep Lindros ....

It was all about organizational ego. Lindros was their best player, but NOT their best leader...Brind'Amour was..and Flyers brass never got that memo. Instead, they kept Lindros and got rid of Brindy.

So all i here is you crying and defending Giroux, so i will explain it to you so you can understand.

Giroux is a good player not a good leader.

Should never have been given the C as he isnt a good leader.(Coots should be C)

End of story!!

Yeo is more recycle of the Minnesota Mild legacy. The Flyers may actually win more games than they want to with his boring check like demons sit back and wait for their opponent to make a mistake approach. Mike doesn’t stand up to veterans. Pominville sleep walked through a season with no accountability. Parise and Suter ran the clubhouse and who Suter played alongside and Yeo stayed in his lane. I get he’s a placeholder. Next guy in will bring in new systems. Tough road ahead.

I clearly stated that he’s part of the problem, but not solely. He’s the team’s longest tenured player and the captain since 2013. If the coach is gonna take the fall this season, than Giroux’s long-standing captaincy deserves some scrutiny also.

That’s not to take away from all he’s done, but that also doesn’t absolve him from the many disappointments during his tenure. You’re just trying to read into my comment and misinterpret it. Come on MJL, I thought you were better than that.

In my opinion, the only thing that deserves some scrutiny is the decision makers who failed to put a quality team around Giroux to take advantage of a player like Giroux. That's the failure. Hextall tried to stop the bleeding and do what needed to be done but they canned him. Now here we are. Putting scrutiny on Giroux for not being able to rise the team above all the incompetence.

Your response gives the impression that Giroux has had no help the last decade. This hasn’t been a team devoid of talent or the lack of resources by way of off-season spending since he’s been here. The way the teams he supposedly lead have virtually thrown in the towel in 18-19, last year and now this streak don’t strike me as having anything to do with a lack of talent. We’re now on 3 coaches and 2 GMs in last three years for a team that’s never been shy about using up their cap space.

Yeah thats right, or am i supposed to get into a long boring debate with you.

How about you come up with an explanation as to why you defend Giroux when this team has done nothing with him as the captain. His leadership skills suck, he is a good player will he get into the HHOF, no he wont, will this team win a cup with him as captain, no it wont. See where this is going i cant lead you anymore.

You cry about Risto then defend Giroux.

There hasn't been a really good team surrounding Giroux going back to the Holmgren days.

Thr Flyers have been pretty much devoid of quality talent with the exception of G, Coots, Voracek, and to a lesser extent Simmonds. Goaltending has been suboptimal, Provorov is good but not great, and...who? Yeah, some good players but the results speak for themselves. G is not the problem, but its time to look to trade him for the future, his and ours

You are partially correct. I think my general point is being overlooked here: Comcast isn't going to replace Dave Scott with a "hockey guy". People like Dave Scott defer to people like Homer for a lot of these decisions. Dave Scott has to worry about 10 million other things besides the Flyers.

So I agree with you partially. Homer is the problem. Dave Scott is just taking bad advise.

- mochoson

Totally agree. Homer stepped down and turned things over to Hextall because he wanted to transition to part time status. He convinced Snider Hextall was the right guy. When that didn't work out, he convinced Scott to hire CF so he he could move completely out and just do occasional advising, en route to full retirement. Now this isn't working out. Who to advise Scott on the next hire ? Definitely need a hockey guy, but who is left ? Don't want Clarke involved, or Homer. Without anyone else to do it, they could even get a 3rd try at it. Or they may leave CF to try and work through it. Either way, it will be a long wait until we see some progress. I'm thinking about tuning out for about 5 years, checking in every now & then to see where this executive quagmire is.
