I can't decide whether or not I am outraged, or just very amused.

CF said he would stick with AV and wants to see a healthy team before making any changes.

2 days later, AV is sacked.

The Flyers lose 7-1 after all the talk and publicity. The players KNOW the coach's job is on the line, and they lose disastrously. Like, might as well not even have showed up.

CF fires AV, and Mike Yeo is named interim head coach. That will probably turn this whole thing around, right? Because Yeo is OBVIOUSLY a better coach than AV.

What's next? Name Lappy to head coach?

CF has not extended Giroux, and I don't see how he will considering next year's cap and the big contracts we already have on the books kicking in. Which tells me that Giroux is probably not coming back next year.

So why not get rid of G sooner, rather than later, before he walks away for nothing?

The Flyers pretty much have written the rest of the season off, 1/4th of the way into it.
AND, kept the main source of the issues, imo.

This is a dumpster fire.

You lost me at line 1. Yeo has proven that he can't do it. Multiple times. On the bright side, Philly's odds of having the #1 overall have just increased. Hope someone other than Fletch gets to make the pick.

Mike Yeo made the playoffs 4 out of the 7 seasons he's been a head coach.

His first season he went 35-36. The top 3 scorers on that team were Dany Heatley (lead team with 53 in 82), Kyle Brodziak and Mikko Koivu. That team was awful.

In 17-18, the Blues went 44-32-6 and missed the playoffs and in 18-19 he was fired after starting 7-9. That 18-19 team without question started slow, mostly due to injuries. They were obviously a good team and won the cup.

So again, I repeat: Mike Yeo is unequivocally the best option to coach the Flyers at this time, especially because he's not a complete outsider and has been an Assistant with the team for some time. Even if Boudreau were still available or you wanted to hire another outsider, they will need time to adjust.

Bottom line: this team will continue to have many of the same issues as long as Holmgrem is President and Giroux is captain.

Mike Yeo isn't a bad coach and his record shows it. He deserves another opportunity.

Jim Rutherford is a dinosaur and shouldn't come within 100 feet of this team.

- mochoson

Rutherford is a dinosaur who won several cups. The organization needs someone from outside it to give it new direction and focus. As for Yeo, he had great talent in Minny and couldn't win a playoff series. He had the Blues in last place when Berube took over and won a cup. Where ever you are, I hope the sun is over the yard arm as these comments suggest impaired judgment.

I agree about Homer. Yeo flamed out in St. Louis and underperformed in Minny. We have to be able to do better.

Dave Scott along with Paul Holmgren is directly responsible for where the team is today. They were both instrumental in losing patience and firing Ron Hextall who wanted to apply a patient draft and develop process. So to say that he has very little to do specifically with how the Flyers are run, is false. Fletcher is the President of hockey operations and the GM. Who does he report to?
- MJL

You are partially correct. I think my general point is being overlooked here: Comcast isn't going to replace Dave Scott with a "hockey guy". People like Dave Scott defer to people like Homer for a lot of these decisions. Dave Scott has to worry about 10 million other things besides the Flyers.

So I agree with you partially. Homer is the problem. Dave Scott is just taking bad advise.

Yeo is INTERIM head coach. If you expected them to pull Mike Babcock out of their ass, you’re nuts. There are very few “coaches in waiting” already lined up. The hockey community is too small. When AV was hired, this was supposedly the coaching dream team with MT and Yeo as assistants. People were doing dances on Broad St practicing for the impending parade. Yes, AV list this team at some point along the way. Injuries didn’t help. But this rests on the players. The bottom line of what happens on the ice is on the players. Why they wouldn’t play for him…who knows? But maybe they just aren’t capable with the team they gave. Put a for sale sign up on the Wells Fargo Center if that’s what anyone thinks and burn down the organization top to bottom.

Hextall was a miserable failure. All of his draft picks look like garbage at this point. He was lauded for this great drafting and farm team development...none of them are anything, except maybe Farabee. Hextall was the worst GM in my 41 years of following this club.

Holmgren is on the business side now. I can't wait to see if they trade Giroux and he goes to a quality team and has success. I'm praying for it.

G is in charge of that decision with the NMC. But maybe he will finally want out. Who knows. But maybe we can get some value at the TDL if he waives. Nobody in playoff contention is desperate enough just yet.

Hextall was not a miserable failure. He added 10 NHL players to the team as GM. With the potential still for more full time. There are a number of players that can be a part of the team moving forward.

They drive me nuts but I would much rather focus on bringing someone in to right the ship and deliver a team that the fans and city can support. As for Claude, let's hope we can get something good in return. Carolina and Florida have some sweet prospects. Let's hope we can do a deal there.

Holmgren is just an advisor now to the hockey side. Scott is in charge. As well as wearing many other hats in Comcast.

That’s my point about “interim”. That’s what it means. They will be looking to find the best option. Apparently, the word interim wasn’t obvious enough.

We’ve had luck trading with Carolina in the past. If I’m them, I’m going for broke.

I can't tell you or anyone else that Hextall if he wasn't removed, would've ultimately succeeded. I can say though that his approach was the right approach. Here is what you never do in the NHL. You never say changes need to be made and try and get that done in one or two off seasons. That leads to making moves that just happen to be the best moves you can find at the time. A good GM doesn't just make moves. He makes the right moves and waits for them to present themselves. That takes patience.

I’ve been saying it since last year and I’ll continue to say that it’s time for this team to seriously consider stripping the “C” from Giroux. It may be more symbolic than anything but it’s clear nothing has changed going back to that disastrous 2018-19 season when the GM and coach were fired, save for the second half play of the 19-20 season.

Since 2013, they’ve changed coaches and GMs multiple times and seen the owner change. The one constant has been Giroux as the captain. In that time, they’ve known nothing but inconsistency and it’s not like they haven’t had good players over that span. Fletcher’s moves to shake up the locker room I believe was still the right one, but it may need to go further (whether CF is still here in the off-season). A new captain might be a small step, but I think it’s the right one. It’s clear once this franchise gets in a rut, they can’t dig their way out… I put part of that on the captain.

And Rod turned into a fixture in Carolina and they won a Cup with him.
