I would wait to do the coaching change in the offseason, and then this is the guy I would try to get:

Lane Lambert, New York Islanders assistant coach

Lambert, 56, has been on Barry Trotz's staff in Nashville, Washington and now New York. He is known for getting the most out of his players, and was credited with the offensive breakouts of Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson before the Caps' Stanley Cup run. Lambert has been on NHL teams' radar for a while. He was a candidate for the Colorado Avalanche job in 2016 (which went to Jared Bednar) and the Anaheim Ducks' head-coaching vacancy in 2019 (Dallas Eakins).

Trotz has said Lambert is "long overdue" for a NHL head-coaching role. Detroit could be a landing spot for the former Red Wings player.

I hope you're right but I am doubting it will actually happen.

The Canucks must have a really bad captain. He got everyone fired.

- mickel25

I don't even know the answer right now. Friedman had said that while AV is on the hot seat, that the team may be reluctant to can him and have to keep paying him 5 mil a year for nothing. But how long can you let this go? If the ship doesn't get righted right away and they end up losing like 14 of 15 games, they are toast for a playoff spot even with a 10 game winning streak. There's no coming back if and when Ellis, Bee etc return. It's amazing to me that we're right back into the same mess we were last year essentially.

Canucks cleaning house. Common Flyers, your turn.
- Tomahawk

They won’t even do that right. Instead of a full house cleaning. Fletchy the pantload will fire Vigneault and one of his stooges will be interim coach. And we will watch the same garbage.

MJL= effective argument

That should be a poll on this site. I don’t think you would like to see the results.

- Hosher12

Actually the fact that you had to move off of the actual subject matter is what showed that my argument of actually discussing the subject, was effective.

Agreed. Firing AV without also getting rid of his assistants makes no sense at all.

Have to clean house.

Giroux doesn't seem to like any coaches that say you have to work hard every night. It's becoming rather obvious that the coach is a goner, but I really hope they flush the room out too including #28!! While he put up lots of pretty individual numbers he hasn't done squat in the leadership department during his tenure as captain. Results don't lie!! How many coaches is this since Giroux has been here?
- Phillywhiteout

I'll never understand why some completely dismiss the production Giroux has put up in his career as leadership.

Mid season that would be the only option, that it why its better to wait until the off season where you get permission to interview several current assistant coaches or AHL head coaches. This year, just sell as much as you can at the deadline and stockpile assets, and try to get into the top 10 or better in a deep NHL draft.

Giroux is the problem! How many GMs, Coaches are we going to fire before the Flyers sack the real problem. I have been saying this for years and everyone gives me a hard time..... WAKE UP! G needs to find a team that isn't in the Flyers, sit back and play on the 3rd line. Not a leader on or off the ice

Allowing Chuck Fletcher to choose the next head coach and assistants makes no sense at all.

Allowing Dave Scott to approve who Paul Holmgren says the next GM should be makes no sense at all.

Its amazing how one player can have such a far reaching influence from what happens on the ice all the way up to the Comcast corporate offices.

Waiting for the off season is ridiculous. There is a lot of season left. Need to build it back up for the young players and to get things headed in the right direction. Will Hart rebound from another season like this? The destruction of an all star young goalie in progress.

It's actually very funny to read all the posts that think the issue is Giroux.

So instead the Flyers should fire AV and his staff and bring in a another old and recycled coach like Bruce Boudreau, which is what Vancouver just did? This is going to help Hart's career? This team does not have the talent to compete in this league, plain and simple. No coach is going to change this fundamental fact IMO. I would rather hire a real coach versus hiring a rethread that you will be firing 2 years from now.

If this was a team that hadn’t gone through a bunch of moves in the summer I would agree. That’s not the case. There are so many quality coach’s out there, that could really help get the ship righted. I also think what Vancouver did matters… if they start to pull it together that puts in more pressure on Fletch to make a move.

If they get blown away again tonight which I expect, then AV and the rest of his staff are gonzo.

It’s his job to decide if the Flyers are being a worthwhile asset for Comcast and make changes when it’s not

Its comments like this that make G such a good leader.

The Flyers are aware of how bad they played and how bad their losing streak is. Giroux called the game “embarrassing” — but he also said hope is not gone.

“Personally, I’ve been on a team here, we lost 10 in a row and made the playoffs,” Giroux said. “So I know it’s maybe weird to say, but we do have confidence in each other. We know we can be a dangerous team. We know we can win some hockey games. It’s just right now, we need to find our swagger.”

Basicly saying..... relax boys we got'em right where we want'em

I have never understood the Dave Scott hate. Beyond being a cheerleader sitting beside Holmgren when they fired Hextall it’s pretty apparent he has nothing to do with hockey opp’s. Would I rather a passionate owner with his own skin in the game? Sure. But unfortunately that’s a choice Snider made.
