Tampa’s 1 C - 3rd rounder
Islanders 1C - 16th overall
Vegas 1C - acquired via trade
Carolina’s 1C- 2nd rounder
Florida’s 1C - 2nd overall
Boston- 2nd rounder
St. Louis - acquired via trade, 2nd rounder
Colorado - 1st overall
Edmonton - 1st overall
Toronto - 1st overall
Calgary - acquired via trade, 5th overall
Dallas - acquired via trade

Teams who have won, who have gotten close, or considered contenders this year. I’m sure I’m missing a team or two

Looks like a pretty mixed bad of ways of getting those players

- sbroads24

So which team are we suckering into trading us a 22 year old Seguin, 24 year old Eichel, or an ROR in his prime ?

Also which team is trading them to us right this moment to stop the impending fall to a bottom 5 pick ?

Do you have faith in this management team to find a 1C outside of the first round like Aho or Point ?

Barzal was a consensus top 5 prospect prior to getting hurt and falling to the Isles.

Barzal, Point, Aho also came out of a once in a decade type of draft class in 2015 (last one that good was 2003)

Bro, the Pens went to the Final when Crosby was 20 and won when he was 21. The Hawks won when Kane was 22.

Stamkos was a non-factor.

Ovechkin was 32.

And in any event, Tampa and Washington had many great regular seasons, which don't matter according to you.

Eichel is 25 and gone, and the Sabres have been abject failures since 2013.

This, like your football takes couldn't be more wrong.

The Sabres tanked properly, they failed at everything else.

Go tell an Avalanche, Leafs, Oilers, or Panthers fan right now they would be better off without any of their top 10 picks on their rosters.

Just because the Sabres failed, doesn’t mean tanking hasn’t been responsible for multiple cups this decade.

The Penguins purposefully tanked for Mario and Ovechkin (managed to get Malkin)

How many franchises have had more success than Pittsburgh the last 30 some odd years ?

They’re picking bottom 5 regardless. It’s fine.

I’m tired of hearing how fantastic it is. It’s not. And it’s not just gonna suddenly change because they draft one player. Wanna know how I know this? Because I’ve been a Sabre fan the last decade of constant losing.

They’re losers. They act like losers, make trades like losers, sign 40 year old goalies who we all know will get hurt like losers, and blow 3-0 leads like losers.

They are cool with losing games. It’s disgusting now after the last decade

The Sabres have 2 #1 pick D men, one who’s about to win the Hobey Baker (you can admit you were wrong on his ceiling anytime you want to, no judgment)

They have Quinn, JJ, Rosen, Kisakov Poltapov, Cozens, Mitts, Thompson, Krebs, as 22 and under Forwards

Tuch, VO Asplund, along with others and 3 first rounders this year

There’s nothing you can say that will convince me that continuing to purposely get demolished every game is somehow helpful

They have prospects and assets. It’s time to try and win games

- sbroads24

You do get how strange it would be to deal all of their vets for picks/prospects (or simply let them walk), then turn around a couple months later and reverse course, right? You don't change plans when it's all going as planned.

That’s not what I’m saying at all.

I would make a volume trade for someone like Pettersson, but that’s it

There’s a gap between trading everyone to win now and going into a season with Tokarski, Dell and Anderson

My point is I’m absolutely tired of the management group operating like the losers they are.

And it translates to being losers on the ice

What do you think of Stevie Y’s management of the Red Wings the last few years ?

They hired KA and went all in to win last year, without considering the future. It was bold and brilliant.

Why can’t the Sabres pick top 5 this year, and still have Vancouver on phone dial trying to pry someone out of there ?

What moves were the Sabres making this offseason to leap Florida, Toronto, and Boston this season ?

They finished dead last, and walked out with Lucas Raymond 4th overall due to crappy lotto luck.

Literally pin this post at the top of every Hockeybuzz page because this summarizes the last 10 years.

People can blame tanking, but last time I checked we started “trying to win” in 2016. Unless trading for ROR was a tank move.

Management and ownership are the reason why we are here. Not drafting Eichel and Reinhart whom are going to be playing on the top lines of two cup contenders this season

Only in Buffalo is trying to win games frowned upon by some people.

It’s honestly unreal how it’s so far out of reality that this team should try and compete for 82 games

Tanking in 2014/15 was the right move.

Doing it again 8 years later after absolutely 0 success isn’t IMO

I’m gonna die someday. I’d like to root for some good hockey.

If the timeline is “oh well we absolutely need Shane Wright, and we wanna compete when he’s 22-23 years old in 2026-27” this team can go (frank) themselves to be perfectly honest

For god sakes dude we just picked #1 overall.

KA's first year was grossly incompetent, almost like he wasn't qualified for the job. What do you do after that? I'd fire him, but they aren't. Rather see them properly reset and develop some talent than sell us another overnight fix.

Penguins fans of early 2000’s aren’t complaining today.

Oilers fans of the 2010’s aren’t complaining right now.

Leaf fans are enjoying watching their team, believe me I’m right in the thick of it.

What’s stopping the Sabres from competing next season ? Everything the Sabres are doing from a prospect perspective is 100% the right move, I don’t see what free agents they could have signed to make us respectable this year, stay the course and reassess in the offseason

I think you can properly do this AND act like now is important

I mean seriously it’s not hard over 50% of the league makes the playoffs and we’re not even asking for that

After you mess up pretty much every meaningful veteran contract, I'm not so sure you can. They dug an impressive hole.

Again, I’m not asking for them to go all in every year or dig into the prospects to make a run to 10th place

But they certainly aren’t acting like wins matter and it’s a joke to me

A) They should be according to you.

B) They also should not enjoy watching the Leafs because they can't win A round, let alone the 4 that are needed. Again, according to you.

Notre Dame and Cincinnati could both get in as long as Georgia takes care of Alabama
