Alex nylander was a bust, that’s on management.

Handed out two of the worst contracts in the NHL in Skinner and Okposo through free agency, through no fault of tanking

Had from 2016 on to build a an adequate defence corps and goaltending, not tankings fault as it should have been done by then with competent management.

Played Risto 25 minutes a night despite him being terrible and refused to trade him for Ehlers, not tankings fault

How can we even say this during this season both of them are on pace for 30 ish goals and 50+ points

Idk how many cups do Montreal, Minnesota, and the Rangers have in the same time frame being the exact definition of mediocre over that time frame ?

Luckily enough for Montreal they can finally get the 1C they have been needing to get over the hump that they haven’t had since Koivu if they keep losing this year

- Pegullaville

The same as Edmonton, Toronto, Colorado, Arizona, Buffalo?

Yeah, it's funny, he rattled off a list of teams that haven't won a goddamn thing, yet claims to be "win it all or bust".

Which picks were Toews, Kane, Malkin, Crosby, Ovechkin, Backstrom, Stamkos, and Hedman selected with ?

How many cups do they have combined ?

St. Louis cup- no tanking

Tampa won cups because they hit on mid round picks, and drafted well. not from purposely (frank)ing losing

Stamkos is barely a factor anymore

Kucherov scored at a rate no other Russian has since Michkov is doing this year.

What are the chances Michkov falls to the 54th pick in the draft like Kucherov did next year ?

Point had 91 points in his draft year, what are the chances a player with elite WHL production falls to the 3rd round today due to height ?

Yea I guess we don’t have to tank if we can draft Savoie in round 3 this year and Michkov in round 2 next year.

Whether I stub my toe on accident, or purposely kick a table, is my toe still not broken ?

Whether Tampa tanked on purpose or not, they still were absolutely terrible.

If anything, it’s actually worse if you legitimately thought you were going to be competitive and finish last in my point of view.

The lightning don’t win either cup without Hedman, don’t win cup 2 without Stamkos.

Don’t forget, the puck used to draft Vasilesky was acquired because Tampa was selling at the deadline due to missing the playoffs. They traded Kyle Quincey for Vasilesky.

But yea, they should have made the playoffs and not sucked. I’m sure they win without Stammer and Hedman

If other GM’s thought that way and Okposo and Skinner haven’t been moved yet, then that’s why we will continue to suck, not because of the fact we are going to walk out of this years draft with another high end forward prospect

Nope, would’ve been another team that tanked

Let’s see who else was close

Islanders - nope
Bruins - nope
Montreal - nope
Vegas - nope

You’re right, the absolute ONLY way to be a good NHL team is to purposely suck forever.

Montreal riding Hasek, I mean price, with a roster that wouldn’t have made the playoffs in a normal year to a cup final is a terrible way to mold a roster Lucky for them they might get Wright or Savoie this year and finally get the player they have been lacking for 10+ years due to building mediocre rosters year in and year out not good enough to win a cup but not terrible enough to tank.

Islanders have overachieved the last few years and now are in no mans land. It’s a shame really cause if Tavares stayed they might win one of those cups

Vegas had 30 GM’s hand them a 4 line deep roster right off the bat……..

Boston is all homegrown talent. Good for them for not tanking, finding 2 HOF’ers outside round 1 is not something that can be replicated.

Wait another 30 games and let me know if you feel the same.

I would not sign Skinner today to a 5 year deal worth $9M per.

Okposo has been a disaster until 20 games ago, and we could have used the cap space on better players.

The Sabres have 2 #1 pick D men, one who’s about to win the Hobey Baker (you can admit you were wrong on his ceiling anytime you want to, no judgment)

They have Quinn, JJ, Rosen, Kisakov Poltapov, Cozens, Mitts, Thompson, Krebs, as 22 and under Forwards

Tuch, VO Asplund, along with others and 3 first rounders this year

There’s nothing you can say that will convince me that continuing to purposely get demolished every game is somehow helpful

They have prospects and assets. It’s time to try and win games

Apart from Dahlin, Cozens, Mitts, Thompson, Asplund, Joker none of those players are on the Sabres roster.

Apart from those aforementioned players I could care less about the rest of the Sabres roster as most won’t be here within 2 years anyways.

We still have 3 huge organizational holes at three important positions (1C, 1RHD, and G). Keep losing and you’ll check one of those items off the list this year.

Power got taken to school by Ryan Johnson last night. I wouldn’t announce the Hobey just yet

Tampa’s 1 C - 3rd rounder
Islanders 1C - 16th overall
Vegas 1C - acquired via trade
Carolina’s 1C- 2nd rounder
Florida’s 1C - 2nd overall
Boston- 2nd rounder
St. Louis - acquired via trade, 2nd rounder
Colorado - 1st overall
Edmonton - 1st overall
Toronto - 1st overall
Calgary - acquired via trade, 5th overall
Dallas - acquired via trade

Teams who have won, who have gotten close, or considered contenders this year. I’m sure I’m missing a team or two

Looks like a pretty mixed bad of ways of getting those players

Bro, the Pens went to the Final when Crosby was 20 and won when he was 21. The Hawks won when Kane was 22.

Stamkos was a non-factor.

Ovechkin was 32.

And in any event, Tampa and Washington had many great regular seasons, which don't matter according to you.

Eichel is 25 and gone, and the Sabres have been abject failures since 2013.

This, like your football takes couldn't be more wrong.

No, they must tank for Bedard. It's not possible that he'll pull a Sean Day. Exceptional Status players never miss!
