lmao

You lost this when you claimed Sean Monahan was one of the top reasons why Calgary is good

12 points in 24 games. On the third line. Playing a career low 14 min a game

- sbroads24

Lightning picked top 10 how many times the last 15 years ?

Kings picked top 10 how many times in the early 2000’s ?

How about Pittsburgh and Chicago ?

St.Louis got Pietrangelo 4th overall.

Every organization that has a cup outside of Boston had spent multiple years outside of the playoffs and had at least one top 5 pick drafted and developed on their rosters……

I’m done with this convo. You can continue to keep thinking you won though if it makes you sleep better at night.

First off I’ve never once mentioned culture

Second and more importantly- THEY NEVER TANKED.

- sbroads24

They sure as hell didn’t try to win either.

They picked 3rd OA, 5th OA, and 6th OA 3 years in a 4 year span

Last year in Calgary

Finishes third worst in worst division in hockey

JG has career worst year

Tkachuk attitude issues

Monahan declining

Perfect opportunity to tank right? Definitely the right call

Instead - hire a good coach. Add a few players, make a few lineup tweaks

Best goal differential in hockey this year and 4th in NHL

Tanking is the only way guys

I don’t think Dylan, Rasmus, Casey, or Tage thought we were going to be good this year.

If it’s obvious to me we were tanking this year, you don’t think they had any semblance of an idea ?

Considering you know, they are the ones on the ice actually playing ?

- Pegullaville

You can't answer the question, can you?

There's no getting around it. By tanking the season you're saying you don't have faith in those players. Or in Krebs, JJ, Quinn and Power for that matter. You're saying we cant win without adding a top pick and you three--Dahlin, Mitts and Cozens--in particular are going to bear the brunt of this philosophy

Armia traded
Grigorenko traded
Risto dashed high hopes
Zadorov traded
Compher traded
Petersen walked, smarter than Eichel, Rist and Rhino
Bailey failed
Baptiste failed
McNabb traded
Hurley
McCabe played pretty well
Myers traded
Larsson took years, but finally drew even
3 2015 1sts

This was the list of assets we had prior to drafting Reinhart and Eichel.

We aren’t miles ahead today of anything we had in 2013-14

- sbroads24

Exactly what I was saying...Full on GMTM

AGAIN "if they stay the course and not rush it" that was the take away

By tanking this season, I’m trying to add another blue chip prospect to this organization……..

Cozens is having a great year.

Mitts is 23, he’s going to sink or swim regardless of the team.

Dahlin has been a mixed bag.

How many trophies did ROR win one year removed from all the losing in Buffalo again ????????

There’s middle ground between trading everyone and icing ECHL goaltending and choosing not to improve

Jack Eichel was a 2nd overall pick

Vegas never tanked to get him

No ones saying you can’t benefit from tanking or drafting high

Pretending it’s the only way is flat out stupid

- sbroads24

Although Tanking is the fastest way to turn a ship around.
The roster absolutely blew last year and EICHEL, RISTO and SAM all thrust the Tank onto Adams with their we are done, trade me message at locker cleanout.

Yet people have run out of patience and want to be contenders now with the core gone ...the surest way to derail a rebuild is to ship it all away.
Are the Sabres positioned to speed it up?
No, no they are not.
Stay the course.

Buffalo wasn’t trying to tank a whole decade either.

Bad management doomed them.

Ottawa made it seem like they weren’t trying to lose purposely this year, but when you put a crappy product on the ice all those words don’t mean much

Sam Reinhart on pace for 61 points this year despite not ever playing a playoff game.

I’m sure Cozens will be fine, he’ll be even better with a Matt Savoie or Shane Wright on his team too

Don't blow it up, but they have assets they can use to upgrade a position or 2 without hurting the future.

nobody cares about the scrubs...but when losing starts affecting two top-10 picks (one of them 1st overall) in their early 20's, especially in light of two players entering their prime who were so sick of the losing that they got themselves a plane ticket out (not wanting to be in buffalo,) that's a bad trend
- Michael Pachla

Again, you are guessing at what has Dahlin's head up his ass...I dare say it ain't the losing so much as it is HIS considerable contribution to it. His own play, IMO of course, is his prime concernn.
You are fight however in the stipulation they need to find his way out soon it he could be a lost cause defensively.
He needs a solid D partner, that would be the best thing they can do for him.

If they are lucky enough to finish last and then win a lottery*

None of that is guaranteed.

They could finish last and still miss out on both. That’s a bad plan

Exactly. In 5 years a few of

Krebs
Cozens
Quinn
JJ
Kisakov
Rosen
Power

Etc, etc

Will not work out

- sbroads24

Which is exactly why you retain picks to fortify the pipeline and retain the prospects with a solid development plan. The more you have, the more you are likely to find solid contributors.
Further to my point of not going Full GMTM and staying the course.

Yeah but if they lose the lottery they just need to tank again the next year man.

It’s easy

I said something like this earlier in the comments, but this team is unwatchable, and doesn't deserve all the attention we're giving them in here. I realize that's on management but it doesn't change the fact that the team sucks and we waste too much time arguing about it in here.

Each year, we talk about upcoming prospects...and each year is the same. I imagine we'll be having this same conversation 5 years from now (queue the "oh, but THIS time it's DIFFERENT ! comments"). Why bother arguing about it all the time now ? Aren't you guys sick of arguing about it ?

Maybe it's time to really become a fair-weather fan. This crap going on for the past...forerver...is for the birds. They're not worth my time. All of you should feel the same way.

if dahlin (1st overall,) mitts (8th) and cozens (7th) walked into your fictitious gm's office today and asked why you would let their great start crumble and why you're intent upon finishing in last place (or near the bottom of the league), what would be your response?
- Michael Pachla

Anything else gents?"

When Buffalo traded Risto, Sam and Jack we all knew that this team would be bad. Almost everyone on this site was clambering on how great the draft is and that the Sabres will hopefully get a top two pick and how they have 3 first rounders. Now mostly everyone is bitter and salty cause they are losing. They are doing what is expected. What has changed?
- c1067

The problem is that in 10 years, not only have we gotten worse and worse, nothing actually seems to change.

This is bullcrap.

Casey can help change that culture by (frank)ing hustling back. Instead, he gives Subban a big ol' "Buffalo welcome" by hanging him out to dry.

The players on the ice are just as culpable for this "culture". How about you show up to play on every shift, like they were in the first dozen or more games?
