Jack Eichel was a 2nd overall pick

Vegas never tanked to get him

No ones saying you can’t benefit from tanking or drafting high

Pretending it’s the only way is flat out stupid

What are the odds of trading for an elite Center man in the next 12 months ?

What are the odds of finding one in the draft if they keep losing this year ?

Option B is more likely than Option A.

Outliers do exist in statistics though.

They aren’t outliers

Washington did not tank for Backstrom - he’s their center

Boston did not tank for Bergeron - he’s their center

St. Louis did not tank for ROR- he’s their center

Calgary did not tank for Lindholm - he’s their center

These teams are all contenders THIS SEASON.

Please don’t tell me none of them have a shot at the cup

If you want to say that you believe this is the *best* way. Ok, I disagree right now based on what’s happened with this team the past 10 years

If you want to say it’s the *only* way - you’re flat out wrong

if dahlin (1st overall,) mitts (8th) and cozens (7th) walked into your fictitious gm's office today and asked why you would let their great start crumble and why you're intent upon finishing in last place (or near the bottom of the league), what would be your response?

Backstrom went 4th overall……

The 2019 Blues and the Bruins are outliers to the rule.

Where did the Flames draft Matthew Tkachuk again ? How about your best friend Monahan ? Top 6 no ? How do you draft top 6 ? By losing lots of games

Give me 2 years to turn this ship around, I need you to trust me.

Hey Dylan, you know how good Matthew Savoie is since you played against him in the WHL. Would it be cool to play with him again ?

Hey Jack, remember those games against Kingston in the OHL. Would it be cool having Shane Wright set you up in the slot for 30 goals a year ? How awesome would your second contract look ?

This offseason I have a ton of ammunition I can use to add some players to get us in the right direction. I have a ton of cap space to make plays in the free agency market.

"aren't we good enough as individuals and a team to win if you used the ton of cap space you had this off season to get some legit players?"

I don’t think Dylan, Rasmus, Casey, or Tage thought we were going to be good this year.

If it’s obvious to me we were tanking this year, you don’t think they had any semblance of an idea ?

Considering you know, they are the ones on the ice actually playing ?

Except Backstrom, Tkachuk, and Monahan were all obtained with top 6 overall draft selections.

also he is completely ignoring the difference between tanking for a player and building a team 10 plus years later

I mean if the sabres win the cup, finally 20 years from now and power is on that roster and we do not pick in the top 3 for the next 20 years

it's the team building that wins them the cup not a draft pick 20 years earlier

So was Eichel, Reinhart, and Dahlin.

Obviously the correct move for Calgary after being bad last year was to trade all of Tkachuk, JG, Mangiapane etc and purposely lose for the next three years because they didn’t have an elite center?

Amirite?

Sean Monahan is.

It sure is nice having a winger who averages 65 points a season though on your top line thanks to losing a bunch of games.

Even better when you have a GM who can put a team around those two top 6 picks.

Amazing how that works

Eichel and Reinhart are still here if we have management that put a team around them at any time in the last 6 years.

But yes, continue to blame tanking instead of inept management.

If Detroit doesn’t make the playoffs within the next 5 years, is it Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond’s fault ? Or is it Yzerman’s for not giving them help ?

Amazing how many 180’s you do within a page

Monahan is suddenly good now just based on where he was drafted

Wingers now matter only if youve tanked for them

Without Ovechkin and Backstrom you don’t win, the Caps don’t win those cups no matter how good of a supporting cast one has.

All I’ve said is blaming tanking for where we are today is incredibly false.

Other than Boston, all you have done has proven me right by talking about a bunch of teams that have gone in the toilet and added elite talents and built teams around them.

lmao

You lost this when you claimed Sean Monahan was one of the top reasons why Calgary is good

12 points in 24 games. On the third line. Playing a career low 14 min a game

I’m still confused how Calgary is able to be in a playoff spot with their losing culture.

They picked top 6, 3 years in a row but have turned it around.

I’m flabbergasted

First off I’ve never once mentioned culture

Second and more importantly- THEY NEVER TANKED.
