You really think Giroux brings it every night? I'm far from a Giroux hater, but I have seen many a game where he seems completely disengaged. I know in an 82 game season(normally) you aren't going to have your best every night, but when you are the captain it isn't a good look when you don't even seem part of the game. Look at the Habs last year with Weber and Perry. I don't know that they get in players faces, but they play their arses off EVERY night. Look at the Habs without those 2 players this year.

i agree, ive never be a G hater. He had a great career with us. But too many times he is completely disengaged. Or just plays hard in the 3rd and gets a point or two. Imagine if he came out like that from the start. I dont see lack of effort from Syd, ever, Im not talking his skill, but just his effort.

Opinions vary and ours do here. We had season tickets back then and I saw him play lots of games. While you are correct that he didn't back down I didn't like the hits that he delivered on many occasions. Yes, it wasn't against the rules back then, but the game has evolved and those type of head shots should have been taken out of the game long ago based on what they can do to people after they are done playing. I thought he was very sneaky about these hits and he was always trying to hunt down the other team's best players. No respect for the man in that regard(not that he cares....lol).

I don't see how it is reasonable to hold a player to a standard that didn't exist at the time. Laying out a vulnerable player not paying attention has always been a part of hockey culture. It's why they teach to skate with your head up and not admire your pass like Kariya did. I agree that it was ridiculous that head shots were ever allowed. Legal or not.

why is anyone caring what hartman is doing this year. Or any ex flyers, is this what its come to? Thats crazy, Hartman should be irrelevant. Did he even play a full season here?
- bradster
Yeah, makes no sense at all with everyone whining about Hartman. How many were whining when the Flyers let him go? He's basically a journeyman that is off to a tremendous start this year. Voracek is doing what he does....collect lots of PP assists. He does what he does, but we've all seen it. Ghost is playing well, but how long will that last? NAK was given every chance in Philly and he just couldn't shake the dumb penalties at inopportune times. Next!

And the Flyers don't need anymore PP points. They have that covered.

Its one thing to say he is not an elite playoff performer. It's quite another to say that he is a poor regular season captain. Lots of evidence of former; not much evidence of the latter...

mt is on top of it, av is as well, cause he is the big guy, he has won a jack adams and took two teams to the finals -- hi-quality coach

he told us all he needed to right the ship was more practice time and the players to not to go home in the off-season. Seems to be working out

Flyers are going to go slightly above.500 through December which will be just enough to keep their jobs.

I don't think there is any doubt about it. Flyers will have a stretch of good hockey sometime during the season. They will mourn the injuries and come close. Some fans will buy it. Flyers will lift another moral victory cup.

Why? Pavelski and Giroux are close in overall career points, except Pavelski has like 200 more career games.

Some points that you're not considering. First of all there is Giroux's cap hit. Many teams are up against it. Especially the top teams in the league. So that is going to limit the number of teams that can fit him. Even if the Flyers retain the max. I could see the Flyers getting a first rounder and maybe a mid level prospect. Or just one high quality prospect in return. What you're suggesting is not similar to the Ristolainen deal. There was no prospect involved.
- MJL

With Risto, there was not a prospect, but the Sabres Haag along with the two picks. Also consider G's cap hit is pro-rated to the remainder of the regular season, so any team would be taking on less than 1/2 of the $8M for G.

Yes, that will help but there's a lot of teams who may not have the available cap space. All depends on LTIR situations.

There is a difference between laying out a player skating with their head down with a clean check from the front and blindsiding a player with a deliberate head shot. You see the videos, these players do not have their heads down, they are being blind sided. It was as dirty and cheap then as it is now.

Kariya is clearly looking and admiring his pass. The hit is also not a blind side hit. Kariya doesn't see it coming because he has turned his head to admire the pass. Again, not sure how many times it needs to be said. Back then as long as you didn't charge, raise your elbow or jump into the hit, a shoulder with the elbow tucked hit to the head was a legal play. It should've never been but it was. It was not dirty nor cheap. It was hockey.
