Well, he was GM for the Oceanic, then replaced Roy when he went to the NHL as GM/HC of the Remparts, and for the last 2-3 years (with their limited actual play) he's been the GM of Drummondville, I think. So at least you figure teams keep hiring him, he must be doing something correct. He also has playing experience at the NHL level, might still have some contacts, and might lean toward talented players a bit more than Bergevin given he was less of a gritty player.

yeah, in terms of current NHL contacts I would tend to think Darche has more than Boucher, as he's been directly involved in the league for a while now.

But in term of experience in actually doing things I think Boucher might have an edge.

Realistically, we're still looking at a very small pool. I'd just like Markov as an Assistant Coach personally

Claude Lemieux is the next GM! You heard it here first!

Boucher's role might have been a bit more significant in some way but that's still in the Q, so I don't think it necessarily gives him a clear cut advantage.

Markov assistant coach... lololll

I mean Markov was supposed to be an assistant coach in the KHL this year if not for his forgetting of giving his retirement papers to the league or something.

He's got the smarts, the respect and clearly would be adored by the public.

Again, I don 't think it really matters who the GM is.

Like Lebrun said, and some in here have been saying all along, the buck stops with Gorton on hockey decisions..

yeah but I think it's safe to assume he's much more comfortable speaking in Russian, he's already not much of a talker so I'm not sure how that would go over here...

I see it as, Gorton is the architect, shaping the house. The GM is the interior designer, picking the colors and furniture. The coach is the real estate agent trying to rearrange everything so it works and saying "Marc, why do I have 4 couches but no toilet?".

Forget about what's going on the ice ... just point the camera at the second floor and leave it there.

It would be more entertaining than having to watch the team we have now.

Apparently he would be interested in an assistant GM position...I don't see how that would work long term, but I mean...why not.

Gorton will definitely have a strong say, but if you're implying the next GM will only be his puppet I very much doubt that.

I think Gorton said it best.

"If I applied for a GM job, I'd expect to have the responsabilities of a GM".

I feel most serious candidates would feel that way.

I am not implying it.

I am stating it.

The GM will be told what to do and go do it.

If you think that is a puppet, then fine. Then you are just a puppet to whomever you work for, as well.

End of story.
