I expect the Habs to trade some salary and take short term salary back (allowing other teams to get cap relief for the trades they want at the deadline), and get extra picks as a reward. They have lots of LITR cap to spend, at this point, so might as well make something good out of it.
Stevie Y does it all the time, and to a (less successful point) so do the Coyotes.
There is value in brining in those contracts that either expire or have a year left after the current one.... someone has to play these games, can't all be AHL players.
That being said, I would be very surprised Gallagher is traded, unless Gallagher wants to be traded. - Mashadar
Well sure, Matheson would be a cap dump but not the only piece coming back in a Gallagher trade |

also why does anyone care about the whole jersey throwing? like who gives a poop?
wash it and give it to/or auction it off for charity. - DoubleDown
When I was a kid, I would have killed for a Habs jersey.
When you throw an NHL jersey like that, doesn't really says much aside that you are a giant douche with money to burn. |

his answer when asked about how he felt concerning a possible rebuild tends to indicate he'd definitely be opened to the idea of moving.

Hard to say, but Gallagher can definitely be moved.... Savard would be a tough sell at this point |

Darche isn't GM but at least he learned the ropes within an NHL organization (and a rather successful one, at that) |

I'd prefer P. Boucher, honestly. He has more experience as a decider. How involved was Darche, actually? Hard to tell. |

so you're saying we don't know who's more of a decider..?
I like Boucher based on his comments I hear on TVA but I have no clue about his competencies and potential as an NHL general manager. |

Well, he was GM for the Oceanic, then replaced Roy when he went to the NHL as GM/HC of the Remparts, and for the last 2-3 years (with their limited actual play) he's been the GM of Drummondville, I think. So at least you figure teams keep hiring him, he must be doing something correct. He also has playing experience at the NHL level, might still have some contacts, and might lean toward talented players a bit more than Bergevin given he was less of a gritty player. |
