To be fair to the Rags, they missed the playoffs 3 of the past 4 seasons (* the one time they "made it" they were swept in the QO round) under Gorton and only made it past the first round once during his tenure.

Not the most impressive resume. 🤷

- mjones242

Gorton was the GM of the Rangers from July 1, 2015 - May 5, 2021:

Outside of landing Lafreniere and Kakko, his drafting has been somewhat suspect with guys like Andersson and Kravtsov as obvious misses (even ignoring some of the drama surrounding Kravtsov's treatment by the organization). There are some guys who will likely pan out to some degree - Schnieder, Miller, Chytill - but there are a number of high picks that aren't doing what you need them to do.

But in trading . . .he landed Adam Fox for 2 2nds. He landed Lemieux and a 1st for Kevin Hayes - he turned that 1st with Pionk into Trouba (maybe a miss, but it was a good deal at the time). He turned Spooner into Strome (who has 50 goals and 150pts in 200 games; Spooner popped in 2 goals for the Oilers, and now plays for a team I bet he can't even spell: Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg.

Now, granted, he was central to decomposing a team that was decent - trading off assets like Stepan, Raanta, Rick Nash, McDonagh, JT Miller . . . to foster their rebuild. It amounted to a lot of deck chair shuffling - but did land them a number of 1st round picks. If they had better scouting, the Rangers would definitely be in much better shape.

You know how many people don't know about this?

I worked at Subway when I was in college. The triangle cut was the poop!

I’m liking this team so far this year… injuries and season long stamina are pretty much my only concerns
- Dozzer

that slow start seems to be a thing of the past... This team looks like it can beat any body.. They can score when they want to, they can defend a lot better and they are getting consistent goaltending.

I was the same Pat.

And I have to admit GMKD pulled some rabbits out of the hat. I didn't think there was a chance to fix the holes in the roster without getting rid of Marner. Didn't think you could fill those holes with cheap players, but KD pulled it off. This time.

I do think the D is still our weakest area and needs a real upgrade. At least a beast of a RD to play with Sandin, and then play Lil with Muzz....just like the idea of a rookie and a vet. One injury and the D looks thin.

The only way to do that is, IMO, Marner or JT. Keep centers over wingers all day for me so??? It sucks to say when they're both playing well but the roster still isn't perfect. So we were not totally wrong? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

- underhill14

We'll see... only time will tell, right? This team is looking solid night in and night out.

I hope this team can stay healthy and go on a deep playoff run..

I'm not one really to toot my own horn because in general I know very little about hockey but:

The Leafs will finish: 2nd in the east

The main reason for this is: I'm biased and I think they're the best but I also need to temper my expectations

The biggest surprise will be: Bunting

The biggest disappointment will be: Ritchie

The unsung hero will be: Muzzin

The goat will be: Matthews

People think this guy is good, but he sucks (and the reason is): Ritchie - Big, slow and ugly

People think this guy sucks, but he's not so bad (and the reason is): Nylander - because his defensive play is underrated, he can score, he's a year older, he's practicing on the PK, and he showed up in the playoffs.

The best move Dubas did in the off-season was: Move away from Andersen

If I was GM, I would have: Not waived Brooks over Amadio

If you remember nothing else I said, remember I said this about the 2020-21 Leafs: Is this the year they show a little bit more? I've said in the past they were missing something but I have a funny feeling about this year, that I won't be as crushingly disappointed.

Muzzin just needs to stop trying to take Marner out in practice and turn his season around a bit

i have heard very good things about firehouse subs
- TheMussel

Best subs I've ever had.

The one at York Mills and Don Mills is really good but the one out in Ajax is better.

This doesn't invalidate my point that he's overpaid by 2M~ and that he is not the best RW in the league and shouldn't be compensated as such.

It does make you wonder how Lou would have handled Marner's post-ELC contract.

IMHO, it's the one and only major mistake Dubas has made to date.

- mjones242

The guy was top 5 in league scoring last year.

Sorry but I completely disagree with you.

You just don’t like him because he’s not a power forward, however he is on the top line and plays both in the PK and PP.

There more to hockey than being a body checking non stop goal scorer

Everbody is poopting on it but I dig it.

I think the jerseys should be more fun...chill...less old looking!?!

TBH, not a fan of the Leafs standard issue leaf and stripes any more...regardless of subtle leaf changes on random years. Should be completely updated IMO. Use the leaf on the shoulders and do something awesome with the LEAFS name only for the front.

- underhill14

The Nashville 3rds looks like a sweatshirt - which is what the kids want to wear today. I respect that.

As for the Leafs logo, I've always found it to be meh. It's a maple leaf - not a particularly good one - and then you write "Toronto Maple Leafs" across the front. There's no creativity to it.

I'd like to see a jersey where they use the logo, without the "Toronto Maple Leafs" written across it.

It looks like a beer can label wrap for some kind of startup microbrew IPA.
- fifty__missions

Yeah, that's a good take. I tell my friends that by their standards, I'm basically a hobo drunk. I like Canadian. I like Keiths. I can get into Harp or Smithwicks or Guinness or Kilkenny, but in more limited doses. But all of these microbrewery trends that people have, "Why are you drinking garbage? Try this!" . . . I hate just about every one. I have to have about 5 beers before I can drink that crap.

Every now and then I grab the 8 pack pick'em case at the beer store and wander through looking for something that jumps out me. They all look like that stupid jersey.

And then I put 4 Keiths and 4 Canadian in my little 8 pack pick'em case and wander away well aware that tomorrow will be unpleasant.

I’m actually glad to say had the slow start…. Even back then I was saying that maybe it will end up being useful because it taught the team how to overcome a loss immediately (which is what had happened since that time). Maybe that slow start taught the team how to never fall into a losing streak again… how to overcome a loss and move on sorta thing

Had it a couple of weeks ago with my kids. I didn't mind it but they refused to eat it. $36.00 wasted. Don't think I'll go back at that price point.

I like the microbrews because I like the idea of my money going to small Canadian businesses instead of sending my money to Adolph Coors' family.

But yeah, it's pretty franking easy to just load up on Canadian. It's cheap, it's not repulsive, and more often than not it has the Leafs' logo on it.

And of course I grab a six pack of Amstel, because my wife thinks it's really good beer. FFS, but hey, if it makes her happy, I'll do it.

My idea is that they should use the logo I posted above as the main crest on the front of the jersey.

You don't need "Toronto Maple Leafs" written across it - everyone will know who they are.

Nothing worse than drinking a beer that you like and then drinking a beer that you don't like after it. It makes the beer you don't like taste even worse and ruins the fact that you're drinking beer.
