Source?
Petry has been a stud for 3+ seasons, there's a silver lining to the entire team sucking, it's a group effort and other GMs will believe, and rightfully so, that some of these players will find their game again once introduced to their system and a winning environment.... like Gramps said, the 3 years left will lower his value more then his performance the last 20 games, his entire body of work still make him a very capable right handed top 4 D, they don't grow on trees and are always in demand, Petry could fetch something valuable to the Habs' rebuild - OB

with half the team on multiple year contracts... won't be easy. this may take 2-3-4 years just to start the process. |

Meh.... I expect them to be very active in tearing down the roster over the next 12-24 months |

It’s just below that red light, right? - pete26

not that I want you to become a soccer fan, but I would not be surprised if they give this team another chance. they might think the short summer and injuries completly ruined their season. with a few trades to get a C and a D they could try again next year imo. then if it doesn't work they will rebuild. anyway, with guys on long contracts, it would just help trading them a year later.
I wouldn't bet on this outcome, but it would not surprise me. |

What did you order Kick? I'm in the market for a new coffee machine. |

Yup.... and hopefully add another 1st rounder or 2 before then - OB
Keep their first and give Arizona the Carolina 1st. Get another 1st for Chiarot, maybe a 1st for Toffoli? We could stack up this draft and make it a home field advantage in a deep draft. Keep the kids, trade everyone else or let them walk. Being 29th overall and cap-strapped is just dumb. |

obie wants to trade Petry ASAP while he has zero value. - Pat1993
Petry has more value than you think despite recent struggles. He's proven himself with the Habs on crap rosters. He has value and I think the Habs can do well by trading him now or at the deadline. The market will dictate the value more than current play for him i believe. |

well, if an idiot does present a decent offer, so be it, but the habs won't be coming in with much leverage for negotiating, compared to a situation where Petry is playing closer to his potential. - Pat1993
his age and term are going to be much a much larger hindrance to moving him than recent play. |

I still think the habs are at a disadvantage if they put him on the trading block right now. it's not like he's slightly playing below expectations, he sucks night in and night out, he doesn't even look like his former self anymore... if I'm the only one with this opinion here then so be it |

so having him play better would at least alleviate a bit of concern for other teams. |

I don't expect them to trade anyone at the tdl, except Chiarot and Kulak.

I hear what you're saying for sure. But every player has uos and downs AND the Canadiens are at a natural disadvantage as an organization because of the recent news and action coming out of the Habs camp right now. Molson mentioned rebuild......there is blood in the water and the sharks are circling. This is where the experience, reputation and the professional approach if Gorton should offset any fleecings. But, the Habs aren't in an ideal position.....but shedding the salaries at this point is a win in itself. Who the (frank) knows what will happen!?! Lol |

Lehkonen is a good possibility as well.... Toffoli an outside chance |

not really. the term is still gonna be there and he ain't getting younger. habs should retain some salary and that will make him more attractive. the wings would be a good suitor. they need a vet d-man to help shelter their younger d prospects for a season or two and who cares if 36 year old petry is on their 3rd pairing. |

Have to trade him now then while he's loosely considered an offensive player. But, there has been consistent interest in Lehkonen at least |
