yeah, I ain't buying that, the players aren't dumb, they're fully aware this season is already over in terms of playoff aspirations.

of course, but the #1 objective is to win.
now, if they are eliminated that is another story. a few more weeks and it will be the case.

There is no winning this season.

It is over.

All that is left is to see what you can do to develop the young kids and what you might want to do with some of the veterans.

I'm guessing you wanted to write is not over.
it's in player's DNA. they will fight till the end. if they don't you trade them, you don't want to build for the future with guys who quit.

I don't want them to quit, but I don't want them to have unrealistic expectations either. if making the playoffs isn't realistic anymore they need to set new goals as a team that they can actually build off from.

players and coaches will fight till there's a small starlike symbol (*) beside their team's name in the standing meaning the are offically out of it. realistic or not.

once they are officially eliminated you'll see DD coach differently.

other GMs will see the habs coming from miles away with this, they won't be taking a struggling AF dman in exchange of a "decent offer".

Source?

Petry has been a stud for 3+ seasons, there's a silver lining to the entire team sucking, it's a group effort and other GMs will believe, and rightfully so, that some of these players will find their game again once introduced to their system and a winning environment.... like Gramps said, the 3 years left will lower his value more then his performance the last 20 games, his entire body of work still make him a very capable right handed top 4 D, they don't grow on trees and are always in demand, Petry could fetch something valuable to the Habs' rebuild

GMs make dumb decisions all the time. it only takes one. and there are multiple idiots at the helm.

well, if an idiot does present a decent offer, so be it, but the habs won't be coming in with much leverage for negotiating, compared to a situation where Petry is playing closer to his potential.
