not that I want to defend DD at all cost, but since when a NHL coach should care about players development? he's there to win games. period. if kids are not ready send them to Laval. that's where they should learn.
that'being said, playing Caufield on the 4th for a few games won't hurt his development. just waiting for Hoffman and Byron to return. |

while I don't necessarily disagree, do you seriously think these lines give him the best chance of winning, or that they really change anything..? |

What if he keeps going downhill? Move that contract while teams still believe he's just in a funk! |

people are funny. they whine all day about the gm. we don't care if he speaks chineese, we just want to win!!!
then the coach tries to do just that, and they complain the kid' development is in jeopardy for a few shifts on the 4th. |

my point is his contract already seems uninteresting because of his play, let him get out of his funk and trade him for a more decent return instead of doing a hasty move. |

First off, player development never ends. So there is that. It is always part of a coaches job to work with players and help them develop all the time.
That being said, If I am DD and I want to keep my job, I read the room and realize Gorton is likely to focus on drafting and development. So if he wants to stick around, he'd better show he has a concept on how to continue to develop younger players that come to the NHL on his roster.

I know technically it's a possibility but I doubt that very much, he's 33, not 43... |

of course, but the #1 objective is to win.
now, if they are eliminated that is another story. a few more weeks and it will be the case. |

I'm sure Gorton and Ducharme will be communicating and talking about what the current expectations are for the team.

yeah, I ain't buying that, the players aren't dumb, they're fully aware this season is already over in terms of playoff aspirations. |
