well if people are going to say hex didn't get to finish what he started and use the injuries to the prospects as excuses........homer got the team to the cup final. His big move in pronger was short lived due to a career ending injury. So he then is not to blame either right......... - Peter Richards
The funny part is people saying we are in no better spot now that when Ronnie took over, as that is supposed to mean Ronnie wasn't bad or something. The 2 are not correlated. In Fact it means Ronnies picks haven't improved us over the last couple years, so it only makes the argument worse for Ronnie.

I just think the Patrick pick not working out put things in motion. Because he couldn't grab that 2nd C spot now you had to find a 2nd C is what Hayes was signed to be. If Patrick works out then maybe that money goes elsewhere like a top end defender. Everything has a ripple effect. - J35Bacher
100% agree...but it was not a "bad" pick it was unlucky and has continued to haunt the team, much like trying to fill the hole Pronger left when his career got cut short...caused the leadership to chase...we need leadership to start a new direction...or at least a new path...not continue to do patchwork as the parts don't fit together, coaches and players |

It is only a bad pick in hindsight...and bad is the incorrect word...it is more unlucky as his brain pain was not the medical issue they focused on. But it is no tthe first top 5 pick that has flamed out. in fact Nico isn't tearing it up either, so I think NJ would also like a redo. - JW98FlyerFan
A very rational description

Our reality is that we are no better than Seattle and have some higher end talent...and we are way behind Detriot (who was really bad), and even worse the Rangers, who have youth, talent, and 7M+ in cap space...leadership needs a new road map and it won't be pretty...Oh, and Comcast doesn't care about older fans... |

This Flyers team is in the worst place a team could be in. Even worse is that there isn't much hope that the team will change course to the approach that is needed. Their only likely to double down and retry the same approach. |

http://www.mynhldraft.com/2017-draft/2017-nhl-draft-rankings - Tomahawk
Im not sure what this is supposed to prove, that the teams and "experts" have different rankings?
Vilardi consensus #3 in the rankings. Drafted #11. Maybe teams know more
Petterson average ranking in the teens, drafted #5. Maybe teams know more
Just because "experts" ranked someone #2, doesn't mean teams that did their homework will rank them the same

The Patrick pick has set them back big time!! It was a bad pick. At the time I was concerned about his injury woes already. When a kid that young is already battling injuries it IS A RED FLAG!! To get absolutely nothing out of a second overall pick is something that will set a franchise back every time. Only the Flyers could luck into the second overall pick and get nothing out of it. Hextall seemed to have trouble thinking outside of the box. Slow and steady leaves you behind the others, and he never got over the hump. Next! - Phillywhiteout
Give an example of what thinking outside of the box would look like? You get the medical reports on a player. You have your medical people review that and make a recommendation. Can't ignore that the injuries he had in juniors completely healed and had no effect on his failure as a player. A injury that is temporary and completely recoverable is not a red flag.

The simple fact is it was a bad terrible crippling to the organization pick. It happens and it did happen. Tired of the excuses.
Time to move on from it

I think the whole thing is a bit frustrating...I became a Flyers fan in the mid to late 80's (was too young for the 70's teams) and then joined the Navy in 90 and was out of the area and did not get much hockey info (and i nthe early 90s I am glad I missed it!!!)...excited again following the Lindros draft drama and was hooked when I saw him on the ice...buddy had season tickets and went to some games in the Spectrum and new WFC...went to games 1-2 of the 97 SCF , landed in Guam and watched game 6 of 2010 and was heart broken again knowing PK should have been a Flyer...I just don't see a path forward for this team, and I have never felt that way before... |
