But they aren't. You don't seem to take into account that Philadelphia is a major market. If the Flyers made some solid moves they could fix things. And no matter your thoughts they would still attract free agents above AZ if money is the same.

I have deja vu back to last year. My thoughts have nothing to do with free agency.

If he stayed I wouldn't be against that. I am not such a risto hater. I think he brings something this team needs and doesn't have in the system anywhere.

Sanheim is the one on that pair that I can't figure out. i feel like he should produce more and just be bringing more to the game.

I'm trying to figure out what this something is. Is it a need for a mediocre overpaid defenseman?

I’m sure glad I’m a Flyers fan because in your world we are the only team that drafted kids that made it to the NHL in those 5 years. (regardless of quality) As far as cap hell…that’s what happens when contracts end…you don’t have to pay them any longer. So he moved out a few bad contracts …big deal. I never said he got every thing wrong…just enough to get fired.
- landros 2

Your question was what he did in 5 years. This is the answer. Yes, if you wanted to wait until a contract ended, the obligation to pay would go with it. That is a brilliant observation but Hexy got the cap hit to go away before the contract ended. All of which sounds too complicated for your binary world.

There is only 1 way Risto leaves. If CF leaves before that.

I expect a 5 for 5 deal.

- PT21

That would be malpractice on Risto's agent to accept an offer like that

( I am not saying he is worth more or deserves more, There is no way a D-man is going to take LESS money on a new deal at his age)

Everyone should listen to Brad Marsh's interview on Spittin' Chiclets. It's really good.

It was also enlightening to hear Marsh talk about how Ed Snider would come down into the locker room after every game, no matter if it was a win, loss, or tie, and thank each player for their effort that night. That type of leadership and camaraderie sure isn't coming from Dave Scott on a nightly basis, that's for sure.

So just looking at next year, without trades or anything, the Flyers lose

Giroux
Brassard
Thompson
Bruan
Yandle
Seeler
Ristolainen
Jones

So that's like 14mil if you do nothing.

They have all their picks but the 2nd rounder.

Frost,MacEwan and Allison are RFAs and i don't see them getting big money.

So are we maybe jumping the gun on this the "Flyers are in roster hell" thing a little early?

To me this looks like a team, if still struggling at the trade deadline has pieces to move and some things they can do then and in the offseason.

- J35Bacher

I posted about this exact thing earlier today and outlined who the Flyers can trade and what they might get in return. If Fletcher determines he can't win with those group he had options to stock pile picks in what is supposed to be a deep draft. He would also have cap space to augment with done signings.

I remember they compared him to Roenick….that was exciting.

when you watch Jay O'Brien play he reminds me at least of Chris Drury. I still have hopes for him.

So December just started and the Flyers are basically a lock to miss the playoffs? It's too early to feel this way. Bring in Torts to shake up the crew!! JVR will be benched after one shift with Torts behind the bench!!!

Unfortunately, they're pretty much out. Not impossible to make it in but highly unlikely.

We’ll you did list the plethora draft picks Hextall made…you obviously have a very high opinion of all these future stars he was able to acquire. Unfortunately you must be basing your observation on what they might do in the future because you sure as hell can’t be suggesting any of those guys beyond Hart has that type of pedigree. I would say his over all drafting record is average….at best.
If that’s all you have then I rest my case, because anyone as smart as you could point to his solid FA signings…you know Dale Weise or is it our 7 million dollar anchor …opps I mean winger JVR to add to your position of what a great job he did….or was it all that playoff success we had? Or have had since ….with all these high end kids he brought in you would think we are pretty well set up…well you would think?

I understand. I just think at the time of the draft things were closer then before.

Damn the Jay O'Brien is a pick I would love to know why he was taken before Miller. Especially since they took Farabee already

- J35Bacher

I really wanted Miller. Its the one pick im pissed at hextall about

That is a good point. Its an unusual case. A guy who signed a contract for top pairing money early, and then fell out of that role by the time he reached his prime years. usually, it would be the other way around.

I think they will give him what he wants to stay. If on top of what will likely be a bad season the GM is seen as having squandered a 1st for a year rental of a 2nd pairing guy, he is essentially saying "fire me"

Well, 3 cup winners in the past decade have been way down in the standings later than this. LA (1st run), Pens (2nd run) and ofc, the Blues.

You can see it: Tortorella comes in, cracks the whip, Ellis gets healthy, Frost becomes the rookie year Giroux, and we go on to...
