USA Hockey and Hockey Canada announced their preliminary WJC rosters...
https://teamusa.usahockey...2869-2022-wjc-camp-roster
https://www.hockeycanada....tion-camp/roster-sel-camp

Sanderson will obviously feature prominently for the USA, and it's good to see Kleven getting so much opportunity... but Boucher not being there is extremely disappointing. There had been an outside chance he might crack the roster in a more specialized checking line role, but not even making the 31-player preliminary roster puts a swift end to that. Greig was invited to the Team Canada selection camp, though, so hopefully he's able to crack the final roster... most likely in a bottom-6 role.

While initially disappointing to not see Boucher crack a World Junior roster, it’s not the end of the world either. The World Junior tournament is an opportunity for a snapshot of future NHLers, but it is also highly overrated that is overhyped by TSN and dominated by players who have a convenient birthday with odd, impressive young kid making an impression. It's not a great tournament to gauge overall prospect progression.

This team is so very, very depressing. Outside our first round pick, nothing we have has any value. Our prospect value is diminished. Brannstrom has regressed, Logan Brown is now performing in St. Louis. Sickos movement died on the vine. Vaunted talk about our prospect pipeline belies the fact that there's precious little obvious top end talent in it. Our GM has been high on his supply so long that he's now liable to waste draft picks - the only thing he was habitually praised for. The coach inexplicably won't put lines in a blender, or reward performers with ice time. The worst thing is our owner digs his claws in, and each terrible signing contributes to increasingly miserly tendencies. Murray, MDZ, Stepan, Gudbranson, Sanford - millions of dollars spent on negative value. Anybody with eyes could tell you those names were all liabilities *especially* for the roles they were brought in to play. Now we're talking retaining salary on upwards of four players. I struggle to see how we're going to hit the floor. Somebody gave this dude a liver - the team literally saved his life, you think he'd pour his life back into it.

Here are a few other guys who didn't make the cut. Mark Giordano, Duncan Keith, Tyler Seguin, Zdeno Chara, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Braden Holtby, Martin Brodeur, Joe Pavelski, Matt Duchene, Martin St-Louis, Pavel Datsyuk; and I'm sure there are many others so I'm not going to worry excessively over Boucher's slow start.

I'm not saying Boucher is ever to be as good as any of those guys but not making the cut doesn't necessarily mean that much.

Dorion, Smith and his entire coaching staff fired; Melnyk sells; Alfie as GM, Methot added to the coaching staff, try to lure Mike Fisher back to town to be apart of the coaching staff; hire Ted Nolan as the head coach; Team will be fixed.
I was embarrassed as a Sens fan when they hired Pierre MacGuire; the guy is a complete idiot.

Good post. Some players just take longer to develop, and the World Juniors is a mix of early bloomers and players with players just eligible to compete due to late birthdays and then look much better than they actually are.

While frustrating to not see a prospect make a perennial favorite team like USA, it’s not the end of the world. Although, the Boucher pick was eyebrow raising at the time, this certainly doesn’t help the cause.

I'm surprised the Sens results have been this bad. Always seem to play the Leafs tough and lots of good talent up front.
What's the deal with Stutzle? The kid has way too much talent to be stuck at 1 goal. I would think they would send him down to Belleville for a couple of weeks to score some goals and get his swagger back.
Obviously a goalie who can steal a game would be beneficial, I would expect the Sens to take a good run at Jack Campbell next summer who will be a UFA.
The Leafs were playing just as badly as Ottawa until Campbell absolutely stole a game vs Tampa and the Leafs have been on a roll since.

Can’t put Stutzle with 2 Defensive players and think he’s gonna light up the Christmas tree 🤷‍♂️

Bit dated but decent article on some possible GM and coach replacements:

https://www.espn.com/nhl/...didates-nhl-coach-gm-jobs

Wonder if Weeks (GM and broadcasting connection with Pierre McGuire) and Muller (coach) would fit into the budget?

Goaltenders are notoriously difficult to assess early in their career, nobody on that list other than Chara was drafted primarily for their physical play, and most of those players weren't drafted in the 1st round... let alone the top-10. The only 2 forwards that were are Duchene/Seguin, and they weren't at the WJC because they were already playing full-time in the NHL. Plus, a full 80% of other forwards taken in the first round of last year's draft were invited to WJC camp. So, I'm sorry but your examples aren't the most compelling evidence. Missing a few exceptional talents over the years that flew under the radar screen is not the same as intentionally leaving a player out who's just not developing very well.

That said, Boucher has a mid-January birthday, which should make him eligible for the 2023 WJC. Hopefully by then he'll have made some better progression in his development in the NCAA, and prove he can be more than just a hyper-physical role player.

What exactly can McGuire tell us that’ll ease our minds?

Anyone who actually believed this team was going to make noise in the Atlantic…is living on a different planet.

-We have only 1 reliable dman, who’ll eventually get overworked (if he hasn’t already) and hurt (can’t wait to see how that looks)

- No good/reliable centers outside of Norris…who at this moment is not fit to be your #1c (but could get paid like one because this team is thin down the middle)…which creates havoc amongst your other forwards

-Inconsistent goaltending

-Coach that can’t adapt and reward players who are actually playing well.

So. With all this.

Not sure why everyone is shocked and looking for answers. The problems around this team were the same pre-covid.

Everyone just look toward the draft and hope the Sens don’t get screwed out of that again and again and again

I very highly doubt this team will go after Campbell after the failed MM experiment. A solid goalie piece is nice to have but it's really the last cog in the puzzle, especially if your team allows opposing players to just walk into the O zone. I really do feel for Murray because I doubt he'd be underperforming so drastically with a competent blue line in front of him.

He sucks man. I thought at the time it was a an ok signing due to the resume/age and the fact that goalies can get hot.

He hasn’t given this team any hope. Nothing. What are his numbers when he’s healthy?

I’d rather give Gus the net..as he’s shown more in comparison to Murray.

And don’t feel bad, that guy is getting paid extremely well and he’s already accomplished more than most NHLers

Nobody have see the tweet by a reporter from Vancouver, hearing that Melnyk try to sold the team. Someone else in Twitter ask him the source. He answers by trust me my source is solid

The news yesterday, that Erin Crowe would be back for executive vp and cfo in February. Also said she’s exited to work for Anthony Lebanc. Kinda weird !!!

Tyler Boucher is 18 years old. He has the tools. He's not doing much from a scoring point of view but reports say he's playing positionally sound hockey and is always is always playing with intensity. I think I'll wait a bit before I write him off.

If she's coming back, she ain't coming back to work with Eugene, so it's definitely an interesting set of developments going on.
