Rather pick up Nylander if the Leafs get bounced in the first round again.

Benching Kuokkanen for somebody, I can buy it. Benching anyone for Geertsen is incompetent coaching.

Ruff says defense has been bad because the players need to play a full 60 minutes, but then does absolutely nothing to the defensive structure so nothing changes.

The reason we score a lot of goals from behind is because the team is always behind. Teams up goals in the 3rd period are going to play more defensive to preserve the lead and a couple of times we've actually come back and won.

It’s kind of ridiculous sometimes with this group. I chalk it up to most of them being kids

Yes….seems like mostly kids on this blog. A lot of unnecessary negativity.

Zacha is having a good start so far!

Foligno is a piece of poop. Makes a dangerous trash play for no reason and injures Hughes. That's (frank)ing garbage.

They held him out for a couple of shifts. Hopefully it wasn't anything serious.

On Insider Trading Darren Dreger said Fitzy would like to eventually add a goal scoring winger or two but said players need to be age sensitive and fit into the core of the group. He suspects that Fitzy will check in on the Bruins DeBrusk. "That player might not be the right fit for the Devils because of his upcoming qualifying offer, but is definitely a player of interest."

Freaking Nico. Rip the damn puck with your wide open look!! No, instead we pass to a well-covered teammate crashing the net.

That's one of things that frustrates me the most with this team. Pretty much every player consistently passes up on clear shooting lanes to make an extra pass and most of the time nothing comes out of it. Especially on 2-on-1s, it happens way too often. They need to start having a more selfish attitude with the puck

Listening to Dano and Sal postgame, I wish either were on this team, as veterans in their late 30s obviously. You think any of our kids are leading with the mindset these 2 are voicing? I’ll say it- Nico and Hughes, celebrated as the chosen ones, first overall, made the teams out of camp, handed top 25% of the league contracts for what we hope they’ll do, based on draft status and flash as youngsters.. being handed money and reward instead of earning it. Those are the leaders of a bunch of kids plus Hamilton and Tatar. Then there’s PK who I’m sure isn’t losing sleep over the team’s current status. Everyone seems content to mess around and try to get better.. but not will it into existence. Complacency, cuz the world was all given to our 2 best players on a silver platter. Need to see more from our core future.

What are you even talking about. It's not Jack and Nico's fault that our coaching staff are (frank)ing idiots. This is a young team that is learning to be good. The core is all around the same age and will grow into a contender together. The problem is that the coaching staff is incompetent and refuses to do things like play Hughes at center or figure out how to run a power play properly. Or playing Geersten for 3 minutes and ruining our 4th line that could be physical with good defensive play.

Give me a break with this "chosen one" poop. Nico is a good player but he was never going to be a Crosby. He plays against the other team's best line every night and does a pretty good job for a guy who is 22. It's not Nico's fault that Recchi has rocks for a brain and can't figure out how to coach the team to score a (frank)ing power play in the past month.

I’m glad Hughes is alright. Looks like Foligno blew a tire but he didn’t seem like he was trying to avoid Hughes. I wasn’t comfortable until Hartman scored. You guys are gonna be scary good with Bratt 23, Nico 22 and Hughes and Mercer 20. You guys deserved better in the 1st game with Talbot and his goalposts bailing us out.

I know the coaching is weak, but the players are on the ice either making a difference or being flat and complacent. No, nico was never supposed to be Crosby, but I wouldn’t mind some Crosby-esqu drive to win out of any of our top players. There’s ability and then there’s mindset. Both can grow and mature over time. I’m just not seeing either right now from this group, just like last year, and the year before that. We’ll keep waiting for our future to develop, and keep hoping for the best, while they go home to their cushy multi-million dollar 22 and under lifestyles.
Call it overreaction Thursday. Just want to see more from guys we’re giving our future to. And yes I’m aware Hughes is just 2 games back and playing wing, that Recchi was never a good coach, that Ruff coaches terrible D, that the team is so young, etc. Just saying what I’m seeing.

I'll agree with this a bit. I think this team is learning how to be a winning team the hard way and Dougie and maybe Graves are the only ones who have been key players on a winning team.

And pretty much every Devil fan does that in a heartbeat. Especially with how poorly Ty has played this year. This kind of trade has (surprisingly?) been discussed a ton across the Devils discords recently and it's a pretty overwhelming majority that instantly make that move if it was on the table

Quinn threw shade at Canucks management today when he was asked about Jack's deal, so I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't last his entire contract there unless theres an overhaul in upper management. Everybody knows he's walking from VAN the moment he hits UFA anyway

- vlongo4419

Agreed. Quinn is going to be a great player for a very long time. His skating and vision are elite level, and he honestly reminds me of a hybrid of EK and Mike Green. I feel that the future of the NHL has much more engaging D, with players that can all cycle. The days of wingers being out of position if their stick can't touch the boards are done. And to further agree with your point, why would he not want to join his brothers, ideally with not so much going back Van's way.

I 100% think jack on the wing is a health related choice and not a coaching one. He's yet to take a faceoff that I can remember while guys like Kuok and Sharangovich who are both sub 40% are taking draws over him. I'll give it another 2-3 games before I start getting worried about where he is playing.
