A little snippet from *warning* Drance's interview with Hughes via the Athletic:
The question has to be asked: with Jack going eight years and the Devils owning Luke’s rights, do you feel excluded? Is there a lure to want to play with them?
Of course, everyone wants to play with their brothers in the NHL. That’s the dream!
You ask the Tkachuks or the Staals, they actually did it.
Of course it would be really cool and be something I would aim toward, but at the same time, I like Vancouver a lot and that’s why I signed for six years. I’m really grateful to the Aquilini family, they’ve taken care of me and my family, too.
I like it here, so we’ll see how it goes. I’m committed here long term. I love it here and I want to win here.
There’s something about the team that drafts you. You want to do well for them. I feel like I owe them my best, so that’s what I’m going to do.
Quinn Hughes (Bob Frid / USA Today)
Your first year you come into the NHL and you really have one partner in Chris Tanev. Since then you’ve had a rotating cast of partners over the past two seasons and now you’re playing with Luke Schenn. Does that change anything for you?
Yeah, it does. I would’ve wanted to play with Chris for a while, but that’s not the way it worked out.
I just do my job. I do what I can, I go out there and do my thing. I’ll play with anyone, I’ll just play.
It’s not my job to say who I’m going out there with and I like playing with Schenner. He brings the physical play and he keeps me dialled in. I really enjoy playing with him, but I enjoy playing with Travis Hamonic, too, and I thought Tucker Poolman was good, too. We have good options.
Is there an adjustment as you play with different guys?
You’d have to ask them that question, but I think they all play the same. Hamonic, Poolman and Schenn, their games are similar. It’s probably more of an adjustment for them to play with me.
I mean, if the team was good, there wouldn't be negative articles. Sucking for 10 years sort of does that. What are they going to write about? Another Demko 40 save performance?
It also starts from the top – management sets expectations for fans, players, and media.
I think Juice talked about it the other night. Playing in Vancouver when things are going well is the best, playing there when you're losing sucks. Stop losing, and it won't be as bad
Everyone knows they played weak teams. I don't think the victories change anything . Petey and Boeser still slumping . Green is terrible . - VANTEL
The team has turned him off since late in the Vegas series. He abandoned their aggressive forecheck and puck possession for... "just let them shoot". They've been playing a 5 man PK even strength ever since then. I tuned him off since then as well.
