if I was Molson, I would make them both VPs. that would help.

with no GM...? bah, at some point it's ok to have different positions and roles, makes the structure less confusing for everyone.

Roy asks rhetorically 'what do the Habs have to lose in giving him a shot at running the club'....my thought is another few years of losing.

Gorton has the long term contract, so offer Patty a series of one year deals, with an annual walk away clause.

- Frozendisc

they need to commit to a few years for retooling via the draft. Play the kids, trade older players, get picks/prospects, eat salary if you have to to move players and focus on development and gaining the best draft position possible for the next 2 years.

Habs are very lucky in a way, the next 2 drafts are solid based on draft "experts", good timing to draft early and pick up solid players but for me the main focus has to be placed on players development, they really suck at it.

Yeah...other teams have the full candidate pool and Bruce Boudreau still keeps getting hired.
- stinger67

but we're missing out on all those vastly superior anglophone candidates...!!

that is actually very true. 31 other teams fight to hire the best english speaking candidates. Habs are alone (except maybe OTT) and have the luxury to pick the best french speaking one. who btw are very often better and succeed later on elsewhere.(Brisebois, Vigneault, Julien, Therrien, Burns...)

and it was the same person, what I'm saying is it would be pointless having 2 different VPs.

not at all. it's not rare at all to have many different VPs. but it would send the signal that they are equals, that Gorton is not the boss of the GM, Molson is.

Benoit Pouliot, former Habs, was a 1st round draft pick of Minnesota that ended up being a bust, was drafted just before Price in 2005
