Where do you rank DD against his 31 peers? - Takemedrunkimhome
too early to tell imo |
|
|
|
DD was given the interim to end the season, made it to the SCF and got a contract.
I mean how could you not keep him after the playoffs he just had? - Scabeh
Rock and hard place you're correct although a debate over the original hire could be had and a debate over his regular season that was awful last year but they got into the playoffs because Covid killed Van and Cal could be had but you're right. That said 20+ games into this year what's your opinion? |

meh, the team is in complete shambles right now, of course he has his part of responsibilities but I wouldn't necessarily say he's a turrible coach either. besides, whether you're hiring from a french, english or spanish pool it doesn't mean mistakes can't be made, and that the person hired turns out to be not such a good fit after all.

no they won't, they never did. proof has been made. when is the last time a french speaking coach has been hired by an anlgo team? not a former Habs coach, a new one? there are many many good ones waiting in the AHL for years now. it's who you know. and with 30 anglo teams... well it's 30 anglo coaches. as simple as that. - fidopro
Ok...what's the math on anglo players vs french...then do the coaches and execs. I bet there's a greater % of coaches and execs that are french than are players |

Ok...here's my point because I accept the language thing:
I accept the language thing and won't argue it happening because I get it but if people want to argue it isn't limiting then I will argue that because there is no honest argument to make that it isn't. There are BS ones about assumptions of similar competence but the truth is the larger the pool of talent you look at the greater chance of finding the best candidate. That's it. Simple math - Takemedrunkimhome
but that's the thing, this "simple math" doesn't necessarily apply to the situation... anyways we clearly see things differently, I respect your opinion but I'm done with this subject for today |

I think he did something pretty damn good in the playoffs with a roster that no one expected to compete for the Stanley Cup.
But yes, his results in the regular season have been mostly bad. Now is it a testament of his coaching abilities or the roster in front of him? That's a pretty tough call to make.
I guess if you judge a coach ability by getting the most out of every player, he has yet to show, on a regular basis, that he's able to do that.

He did.
And god knows Roy is an outlier.

Actually that math is telling. You're assuming french coaches aren't getting a fair shot but you could easily make the argument for a lot of english coaches in junior, ncaa, overseas, etc who don't get the opportunity. Math tends to extrapolate on those both ways |

Here's a fact : No french coach or GM in the NHL has ever the touched the penis of one of his players, it's exclusively an anglophone thing.
To me, that's reason enough |

Math applies to everything. Whether a decision maker chooses to apply the math (which never lies) is what is at issue |

Oh for sure, the sample to judge him is quite small.

I wish him well. I've talked to him a few times after the 67's games. Good dude. Hope he can survive the rebuild in the Desert. |

Roy asks rhetorically 'what do the Habs have to lose in giving him a shot at running the club'....my thought is another few years of losing.
Gorton has the long term contract, so offer Patty a series of one year deals, with an annual walk away clause. - Frozendisc
