You lost me a bit there. ADB has generated between about 30-50% of his goals on the PP and most of them are from the same spot with the same shot. Ovie and Panarin both flub that shot as well, it just doesn't make the highlights.

I was talking more about PP shooters. ADB and Kubalik routinely let it fly as long as they have some sort of lane and the pass is in the wheelhouse. The other guys (Strome, Toews, Dach, Kane) tend to try to move the puck more unless they have the "perfect" shot.

Idk from the games I watch, Dcat scores a lot off his wrister, even on that cross ice PP pass. Definitely a good one-timer but I don't really see him hammering pucks past goalies like some other big time goal scorers.

Kane moves the puck more b/c of where he is on the PP. Kane actually has an underrated slapper. Love the huge windup he takes sometimes. I want to see him shoot more on the PP.

Idk the last time I saw Toews score on a one timer so that should be interesting. Maybe he will bull to the net more from his new spot. Maybe the change is so the Hawks don't just rely on the perfect cross ice pass for a one timer. Lots of ways to score on the PP...Hawks tend to rely on only one method.

Back in the day skating wasn’t as important as it is today because hooking, holding and mugging were viable defensive tactics that gave a level playing field to the slower skaters. But you were right he could play a physical game, he could fight and he chipped in some goals. If I remember correctly he had a few 20 goal seasons and may have hit 30 once or twice, in an era where 20 goals was considered a good season.
- paulr

Never hit 30 but scored over 20 a few times for the Kings, Wings and Leafs. Hit 27 a couple of times.

#18 if I recall correctly. I always liked Maloney, don’t remember who exactly they got back for him.

They are 1 for their last 30 something. Trying anything would be welcome at this point. If all King does is tell KAne to move his ass, it will be an improvement. One of the most dangerous passers in the game and he makes it easy for the other team to find him He should never stop moving.

Kane gets the puck and everyone just stops moving waiting for the pass through sticks, legs and bodies. Maddening

Boy, you guys are bringing back some memories for me. Maloney, Korab, Pinder.

I do remember a game in Buffalo when Korab was on the Sabres and play was in the Sabre zone. Dennis Hull was standing either behind the net or in front and I have know idea what Dennis had done to Jerry but Korab threw his gloves off, reached over the net, grabbed Dennis by the sweater, dragged him ti his side of the net and proceeded to pound away.

Korab had a nice career. Most of the best years in Buffalo. I wondered who the Hawks got for him and dug up this from Hockey Reference.

May 14, 1973: Traded by the Chicago Black Hawks with Gary Smith to the Vancouver Canucks for Dale Tallon.

Was Tommy Ivan still the GM who made the deal? After trading Esposito, Hodge and Stanfield in one deal we think Stan was bad?

Needed a backup goalie cause Desjardin wasn't it.
- Elbows15

Desjardins was great until he broke his arm on his catching hand (his best asset). When he went with Pinder to Oakland, Desjardins was still hurt, and the Hawks had to take Desjardin back for Paul Shmyr and Gilles Meloche.

Yes. Ivan traded Espo because Hull put Phil up to (frank)ing with Ivan in a meeting. They were just (frank)ing around and ivan got his panties in a bunch and sent Espo packing.

Saw Backstrom play for the Chicago Cougars in the WHA. He was old, but could still scoot. A little razzle dazzle, too. A lot of fun at the old International Amphitheater.

He played 32 games for the Hawks. Over 3 seasons. Great might be a stretch.

Backstrom's only problem was his best days were behind him. Wow. He only played 16 games for the Hawks. Thought he spent a season or two here. Like you mentioned he took the money and went to the Cougars. Cougars had some pretty sweet unis.

Played the year the Cougars made the finals, with Stapleton as player coach. He led the club in scoring with Bob Liddington (think Victor Stahlberg) and Duke Harris (think Dominick Kubalik) as linemates

The Cougars had to play at Randhurst because the Amplitheater had the Circus booked, and old man Wirtz would never allow them to play at the Stadium.

Great times as a kid for me. Got free tickets to Cougar games because my dad new the Kaiser’s very well. And my dad had season tickets to the Hawks.

Considering Tony O played the rest, and in that era, the #1 goalie played about all the games, I would not use games played as as measuring stick as to how good he was when he played.

I was at the game the Desjardins elbow was mangled against the goalpost (no Marsh pegs in those days), by Magnuson. Was not a pretty sight.

Played on the Jr. Cougars a couple of years. We wore black pants with a green and gold stripe, not the green ones the WHA team wore. Still have my #16 jersey packed away somewhere.

Exactly! Forces the players to find other ways to score. I honestly want to see Kane do something like McDavid does. McDavid gets the puck up high on the left side on the PP a lot and heads down hill. He either rips a shot or dishes.

Forces the PKers to make decisions on how to defend. If they rotate to take away that ice/shot then Kane can dish. Gives him a lot more ice to view and more options.

He is so limited in his old spot. Terrible angle to shoot. Just dangles dangles dangles and a pass.

For 8 straight years Tony played 63 games or more, and a couple 70 and over. At that time, I think the season was 74 or 76 games.
