same, i do think we need the physicality RR brings, but should be able to get that saving a couple mil....G, we could get a really good player with his money. Now how do we unload jvr? But with all that said, we need a new coach first and foremost. Someone flexible to adapt systems to our skill set. And someone that wont put up with lack of effort. - bradster
I have zero faith in the GM to do that.
JVR will 100% be a buyout if the GM is still here IMO.
Need a coach who isn't stuck on archaic hockey and is able to modernize his strategy. Though still is funny to me that when the playoffs role around you still need the physicality and other qualities that the regular season may not show.

The GM feels bad for Lappy,; I feel bad for the AHL prospects being coached by a guy who's way out of his depth. They could have put Gritty in charge and got similar results. - Feanor
yep not one media guy even calls him out on that at all. Complete poop show from top to bottom

they are in a bad positon.
1. No star elite level skaters.
a) very little quality depth
2. Nothing in the system player wise that are game changers.
3. Long term contracts to hayes and ex selke which will hurt them. Those 2 as your top 2 centers will not get you far.
4. The D is a mess really. Ivan and Sanheim only 2 fixtures. Neither good enough to carry a team. Cant count on Ellis. York and Igor will have growing pains assuming they are even NHL caliber.
5. Average Andy GM at best making the decisions.
6. Lappy- enough said there.
6. will have a new coaching staff next season at the latest.
So help me understand how they are in a good positon. - hello it's me 2050
And this is all Fletcher's doing? I agree this team does not have top end talent, but that is something you are going to have to draft and develop yourself because teams that have that talent are not getting rid of it unless they are forced to for cap reasons. Hextall did not stock the cupboards with top end talent, that is a fact. Fletcher has tried in his 3 draft to obtain these types of dynamic players and we'll see how he did soon enough. Hayes was a necessity due to Patrick being a bust. Couts is arguably the best player on this team, you don't let players like him walk so that was a no-brainer IMO. Ellis, unlike Provorov, is a legitimate top pairing defenseman and when he gets back this year you will see the impact he makes game in and game out, that was a good trade! RR might not work out but it was a good gamble IMO. York and Igor will be playing in the NHL soon enough! The coaching staff might need to be changed depending on how this season goes, but at the time I think most fans and analysts in the league though getting AV was a great move. He is one of the most winningest coaches in the NHL, so he must have done something right! |

Adding to this, I think Lindblom is another player that might not make it if he doesn't turn it around asap. JVR is definitely gone after this year one way or another. TK might also be traded in the off season, and its not a lock G is coming back. RR is not a lock to be resigned despite what some think about Fletcher being in a corner, he's not! |

When you have so many holes its really difficult to fill all of them in one off season, that is just fact. Defense still wins championships and that is true in the NHL. The Flyers were the worst defensive team in the league last year, so this was the obvious thing to fix. Fletcher did address the offense to a certain degree, he swapped Jake for Cam to get more shots an goal scoring into the lineup, and signed Farabee and Couts to extensions so they could play freely without any contract issues hanging over their head. He was also hoping that Frost would be ready as well as other players from the Phantoms the 2nd part of this season. Frost looks like he might be able to stay with the team now, and unfortunately Foerster and Allison got hurt which clearly sets back his plans. Fletcher also got Ellis and Yandle to help drive the PP and increase scoring. So IMO Fletcher did a lot the help the offense this past off season. - jd250
You have been yelling from the mountain tops at how great cf filled all the holes this off season and now you are pushing this garbage out of your mouth?

playoffs are like a totally different game, defenses clamp down, refs put away the whistle. The reason why Toronto craps the bed every year.

You said they are not in a bad position. Doesn't matter who is at fault. They are in a bad spot. You disagree.
you do let players like ex selke walk when they do not fit the timeline to try to win a cup. He should have been traded. He will be the next CC we will be talking about in 3 years. Only diff is CC still can produce at his age. I do not think ex selke will age well at all. |

I don't buy this idea that Comcast doesn't give a crap. - MJL
I do. I think all they care about is the bottom line and as long as that's fine, they'll allow the team to spend money. Wins and losses (and OT losses) are meaningless to them. The Flyers are just a line item in their portfolio.

my issue with the coach is the dump ins, and our players not playing hard night in night out. That should be totally unacceptable, and is a big part of the reason why we are so bad. If the effort was there, we would have at least a couple more wins. - bradster
There are some decent teams that play a similar way where by they get pucks behind the other team and dump into empty corners….the difference I see with the Flyers is they dont get in on the for check …the other night there were several times they dumped it in and watched while the other team set up and simply came back up the ice…that’s head scratching when a team does that unless it’s to get a line change. |

If RR has any brain he will test free agency and try to play for a winning team after a decade of losing. Unless the flyers just make him to good of an offer...

Ya, so either hold them more accountable or change the system if the players aren't doing what they should be. I think they can do it, i've seen them do it. Would love to see them do it for at least 45 minutes, that would be a good start.

I wish Lindblom was playing better. I can't criticize him after what he's been through. He likely won't be the player he was, and it will be a bad contract. I just hope he remains healthy. |
