Jarry reminds me of the way C Price started to become world class. He is a very confident kind of guy. I do not think that he pays attention to critical media coverage and just does his thing. He will continue to get better and better. You are now starting to see the REAL Tristan Jarry, and you are going to like what you see

Thats quite possible I guess, but while I think it was a mistake to let Eberle go overall, I still think Trotz is best coach in league and just the loss of Eberle wouldnt result in them ending up in dead last at the 1/4 mark.
- MattStrat

Agree Trotz is amazing, so much so that he keeps covering for roster subtractions. But lose Tavares one year, Toews another, now Eberle who played a too line role for them. It's just not that impressive of a roster after the top 5 guys. Trotz has made the most of it, but there comes a point where you can't keep subtracting talent every year and expect him to keep overachieving.

Curious just how confident you and others are in Jarry. Willing to give him an early extension with a pay raise this off-season when he's eligible? Or would you let him walk into his last year before unrestricted free agency without one?

Ask me after the playoffs.

There are so many moving parts at this time. Malkin, Letang, Rust, Kapanen, and even Carter need to be addressed first. I have to think a bottom pair defenseman is still on the radar for this season. I can't see Hextall/Burke being okay with Ruhwedel and Friedman as our sixth and seventh d-men.

I do think he gets an extension and a raise. His salary jumps a bit to $4.5M next season. So that's your starting point.

So to your question, would I do it? Yes, he is both our future and our present goaltender. Money and term depend upon which direction we go after the season.

Doubt it's that low. I'd use somebody like Markstrom at 6M per as a comparable if he continues to play well and it's a UFA contract.

You mean the only 2 D men on Calgary that give up more chances in front of the net than the offense generates when they’re on the ice?
- Feds91Stammer

Like I said a very small portion of hockey fans. Can’t get much smaller than Feds.

No, his actual salary for next year is 4.5m, his first year of this contract was 2.5m. Had a backloaded increase on it.

I think that makes his qualifying offer 4.5m. That's the motivation for a player doing it that way

Tbh I think they are fine with them really. I do like what I see from both. Question is if we are giving Joseph a chance in the NHL or not. The guy needs to play @ some point.

That's ok. I'm sure they'll make a gallant attempt at Kane.
- Rinosaur

I am actually wondering who the rumored Eastern team who has interest in Kane is. Some rumors have San Jose retaining half salary and giving up a draft pick to get rid of Kane. Rumor has it he is seeing a counselor now and he previously wasn't such a headache when playing with Joe Thornton. I question if Burke and Hextall would take a chance on him.

There's no QO. Jarry is an UFA after next year.

If he gets Markstrom's contract, 6x6, that would mean he's earned it. 6M per is well inside top ten at the position.

In the end my guess is he'll get 6x4. I think he's good enough that he'll get the money and be able to dictate his term. Four years would be short enough to cash in on his final contract.

Was Markstrom considered a top 10 goalie or just a good goalie that made it to UFA?

All Metro teams lose today. Pens have a prime opportunity to gain some ground tomorrow.

No idea. Didn't Vancouver sign Ryan Miller only to have Markstrom beat him out?

I’ll say it Zucker fit Evander Kane if the sharks take half Kane’s salary.

He’s not better than any of the NHL d man currently on the roster. So he does not NEED to play at all.

My point was I'm fine with Ruhwedel and Friedman + we have POJ in line to play if any of them get hurt. No need to trade for a defenseman right now.

At first this would be the idea but we need to see how Kane is looking like on the ice these days. I'd be concerned.

Friedman takes too many penalties. Ruhwedel was badly beaten by Lucic on the Calgary goal last game.

You get what you pay for with these two. I agree there's no rush to make a trade. I disagree that we're fine with one in the line up come playoff time. If we make the playoffs, that's not a guarantee yet.

To be fair Ruhwedel is our smaller defenseman lol Lucic is a big guy.

Ruhwedel is not one to make many mistakes during games. Friedman I jus feel like he's a decent 7th D. He's a gnat and like to engage. That's OK.
