Zero value no. Minimal value? Yes.
Men vs women.
Pro vs amateur.
Contracts. Drafting. Free agency. All pretty important things you'll never experience in managing the women's national team - Takemedrunkimhome
You make it sound like an ideal candidate is is waving his hand frantically in the air saying "pick me, oh, oh, pick me!"
That candidate has not jumped out and likely does not exist (especially the names been talked about,or even if they want to come to Montreal).
All I am saying then, if you are going to train someone on the job (regardless), pick the person you think will eventually turn into the best GM, especially given you have Gorton there to help make that happen.

Hey! You shut your mouth. The women's team is just a few more years from being able to not come in last against the U20 AJHL Junior B teams they play. |

Give him Dvorak's minutes and wingers - OB
Losing with Poehling playing consistent minutes as 2C while also having not traded the picks for Dvorak would have been great if for no other reason than to know exactly what the Habs have in house going into the draft next year...and having another 1st.
But we have Dvorak who is good at faceoffs and pretty much nothing else (he's decent on the pk). So yeah...I hope the door smacked MB really (frank)ing hard on the way out |

And there's 3 C sitting at the top of the draft as we speak, 7 in the top 10.... just pick the right one - OB
I think you mean the Wright one. |

Dvorak has been better the last 10 games or so but yea, I agree completely.... just hoping for good seasons from Suzuki, Caufield, Poehling and Romanov at this point |

Guess we have to agree to disagree here. I like relevant experience when I'm hiring for jobs, not a PR move |

My honest and likely unpopular opinion...they don't draft Mailloux and the idea of a female GM isn't even brought up. Now they need to keep showing how woke and progressive they are |

Romanov still goes for the big hit too often putting himself out of the play but otherwise I've liked watching his game settle in a bit |

You see it solely as a PR move
I don't whatsoever.
Maybe that is based on my experience of hiring people with different skillsets / similar skillsets in a different industry, or minimal relevant experience to the specific job but a track record to show they can succeed.
If I hired the same skillset all the time, I'd just be stuck in the same mentality and the same lack of new ideas or growth.
Different perspectives and experiences, I guess. |

while Madden has an excellent resume, I don't think he'll get the job. they already have Gorton with a similar resume.
they need a gm with a different skillset. so Darche, Brière, Luongo, Brodeur...
looks like drafting and development will be under Gorton, trades and contracts under the gm. |

I don't understand why they keep Caufield with the team at this point.
Played 12 minutes last night, was benched after a turnover (God knows there are others on this team who are guilty of it regularly but don't get that treatment), sees limited powerplay time.
This is not how you develop a player. They need to send him down. Hopefully the new management is bright enough to understand that. |

He does.... playing more will only improve his timing and to pick his spots, he's rounding out quite nicely thus far |

Or...
(And just hear me out here).
We've seen other organizations hire female hockey people (Leafs and Kraken), and people are starting to think that perhaps considering a female candidate for a management position does not seem that crazy anymore.
Just.
Maybe. |

I wish but I see them drafting 4th or 5th, Wright and Savoie will be gone by then |

I don't believe in hiring the same skillset each time but if I'm bringing in somebody with minimal to no relevant experience I'm not giving them one of the top jobs. Why should those below that position respect a person who has less experience than they do in the relevant field giving them marching orders. I believe in putting people in a position to succeed and allowing them to grow from there, not putting them in a top position and essentially saying sink or swim. I'm an egalitarian but you've gotta earn it...no handouts for anybody |

Did the Kraken and Leafs hire a female to the top position in their organizations? Must have missed that.
Ohhhhhhh...they hired women into roles that fit their experience and are allowing them to grow from within. What a sensible idea |

Dude...Kekalainen was the FIRST European born GM in NHL History just a decade ago. He was in hockey ops for 13 years in the NHL in various capacities. You think a franchise as big and powerful as Montreal will hand over a GM position to a first time individual with no NHL experience...let alone a woman? C'mon man. |
