When the Flyers just hand over the puck in all three zones, it makes life pretty easy for the opposition.

Think about how fun it must be to play the Flyers... you can just attack attack attack with no pushback.

- Tomahawk

Hamilton as a defenseman had free reign to attack the Flyers net with no threat of a counter rush.

Not really. I did proofread my own post, which I wrote and submitted before you made your edit. Which is the only reason for my edit (to address your edit).

Which means you need to listen to Paul Simon, and slow down and not post so fast.

And sir, this is a family site. Please stop posting pictures of ironing boards.

Their systems and strategy of play is a wreck. I don't think this team knows what a regroup or a neutral zone counter is. They purposely give up possession too many times for it to be a player issue. On breakouts by design they put the puck into 50/50 battles. All an opposition forecheck has to do is seal off the wall.
- MJL

You are correct and I have to think the players know this as well.
So Then at what point do these professional athletes say F the "system" and start to play smarter hockey?

the answer should be sometime last year. Its not going to happen with this group. I think they are rebelling against the coach. This teams players are too good to play this awful. The total lack of compete is very frustrating. Torch it all.

Puck support and puck possession.

Without those two things improving drastically, some way, some how, this team is effectively hopeless.

- Tomahawk

ZERO puck support, they cant even get enough support to do a center breakout, forget the rest

I think they are afraid to try, they are afraid to turn back to keep possession. Now if I was looking at Seeler and Yandle, I would dump the puck too.

Comcast will continue to spend as little as possible on the team until at long last the base stops giving a crap and then they’ll sell it to [insert expansion city]. Unregulated vulture capitalism only knows how to cut costs and sell bad assets.

Over the last 10 yrs I have heard the following excuses. Too little practice...too much practice...the refs..the league hates us. , my all time favorite the schedule maker, too many back to back games, too many or too few days off, the list goes on and on

Fenway sports group just acquired the Penguins. I think they have financial stability now, and very competent ownership.

Wow. Just a few weeks ago you were saying there are "nice pieces to build around."

I am glad you are coming around to see this obvious truth, but what changed?

- PT21

No super stars…no stars beyond Hart… but they do have some good solid players to build around… ie konecny, Farabee, provy, coots, Risto, Ellis…. I can hope any of these develop into stars… maybe York, Foerester? is it a given? No . Nothing has changed… except I’m disappointed with their play.

Flyers need to move Giroux to center while we are hurting at C.

The PP is not good enough. Guys are too slow to move the puck. They cant generate good scoring chances because they give the opposition time to get in the shooting and passing lanes.

NJ was a team you had to beat

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Agreed on all counts. I'd be making that change. Further, they can't make clean passes. Good teams move it around fast with crisp passes allowing lanes to open up and get shots through.

Speaking of Provy, what is going on w him in his own end.. he handled that give n go like a hot potato. It was clear as day the intent was for him to skate into that pass and rush up ice.

He has been bad. Selke has been bad, K has 0 biz being on the pp right now. Risto bad last night, playing better since getting healthy, but bad last night. Is Frost playing? Yandle at least put up pts last year and was ok on the pp for a decent amount of last year. This year he looks like he has the flu. Every game.

We have Laughton, Farabee, MacEwin and Sanheim when rushing the puck playing decent right now. The rest of them look like dogshyt.

The coach should have been fired after the 2nd ranger blowout last year and hopefully will be let go after we get killed on wed night.

Have we ever had a team like that?

In my 20-25 years of watching (first 5 of those a little hazy), I don't recall a team like that.

My categorization of style of play of forwards:

Part 1: big wingers, big centers, win battles along the boards send it to crease for dirty goals. This part largely ended with rule change and Primeau injury.
Part 2: Hodge podge (Mike Richards and Danny Briere): Ended with Richards/Carter departure:
Part 3: Vanilla with Chocolate: ended with Simmonds injuries
Part 4: Plain vanilla (since then -)

He did skate into it. It was a piss poor pass. He had to lunge with his stick on one hand just to get a piece of it.

I've taken to DVR'ing the games to fast forward through the largely unwatchable play. Upon review, it's uncanny how often all 3 Flyer forwards are either behind the offensive zone net or along the perimeter boards.

In both Tampa Bay games, the Lightning have at least one forward moving fast and driving to the front of the net on every offensive possession.

Night and Day.

Look at the Johnsson goal last night. Yes, Ristolainen turns the puck over that leads to the chance but look at what happens before that when the puck is in the Devils end. Couturier and Konecny are in deep around the goal line. Devils over the puck D to D and Atkinson is F3 and instead of back checking, he forechecks hard. Sanheim for some unknown reason is pinching on the weak side in deep. Konecny well he just changes behind the play. Hey, best way not to get the minus on the play. This leads to a breakaway chance that Jones stones. Leading to the failed clear an eventual goal. Just a mess in all 3 zones.
