Timmins would have drafted garbage instead. We all know it. - Scabeh
My point was simply if you assume he would or wouldn't have picked Debrincat and Girard, either way you're making a massive assumption with no basis in fact.
That said if going strictly on opinion I agree, TT would have drafted more crap. |

I think Molson is right about this 2 heads thing managing the team. look at MB, he looked tired a lot. - fidopro
Likely also means Gorton will be running the show short term til they get up and running, regardless of gm.
I can see them eventually splitting things up, where Gorton is part of long-term planning / recruitment and drafting, the GM is day-to-day, current team personal, and development.
Something along those lines.
Probably not like that, but as an example.
I have zero doubt that Gorton will be in charge of the direction of the team and the GM will be tasked with execution of that plan. |

fair enough. but the GM should be reporting to the VP of hockey ops. if Molson is serious and both the GM and Gorton will report directly to him, this absolutely will not work. but i don't think Gorton would have taken the job if that was the case. |

I think/hope that's pr/cya for when Gorton is acually running the team in full with a french pr guy as "GM" in name only. One can hope |

has to be. there is zero chance Gorton would have taken the position if he had no oversight on the GM.

yeah I don't see that. you don't pay a yesman millions just to hold press conferences.
and these guys, gm candidates, won't sign here if it's just to be the puppet.
Molson was pretty clear, both will work together and report to him. |

absolutely. also get ready to see habs hire a woman. diversity! - fidopro
I said yesterday that there are some women who have been running the national woman's hockey team, who have more experience than some of the names that have been thrown around.
I don't expect one of them to be named GM, but I would not be surprised to see one of them as part of the senior group in the Habs front office. |

Agreed.
Plenty of interesting names available.

The only real concern I have is that they didn't give Gorton the full title...he's EVP not P and if that means Molson is still going to be involved then it's clear he's learned nothing |

i thought bergevin had a good run, pulled off great trades. but in reality i think Price has been carrying this team to overperform and made it hard to accurately evaluate where the team stood |

Molson seems to be saying all the right things... Or at least, what I want to hear.
Not completely sure, but just from what I am reading o Twitter (on a work conference call, cannot watch the press conference right now).
I thought this bit posted by Lu, was interesting:
#Habs Molson on the subject of a potential rebuild if Gorton and GM recommended it: “I’m not afraid of that word and I think it’s something our fans are not afraid of.”
https://twitter.com/JohnL...tatus/1465359632709435392
Time will tell, I guess.
But at least it is something to look forward to during the rest of this throw away season. |

ok you're acting as though it's unheard of for a GM to report to anyone but the owner. lots of teams have structures where there is an executive between the owner and the GM. and since it's a given that the Habs will be hiring someone with no NHL GM experience, yeah i think they'll be fine with that structure.
i know what Molson is saying today, but sorry, i just don't envision a scenario where Jeff Gorton signed on to co-manage with a guy who was running sales and marketing for a customs brokerage 3 years ago.

Gorton is the GM but they can't call him that because... marketing. I see the new GM as more of a spokesperson and AGM. |
