Martin Madden Jr will be the GM IMO, he is AGM with Anaheim, he oversees professional and amateur scouting for the past 2yrs - Symba007
Why would Anaheim or T Bay or any other organization give their people who they have under contract permission to interview at all?? |

normally organizations let their staff go if it's a promotion. happens all the time.

meh, personally I wouldn't have the language limitations in place, as I don't care what language they speak, I just find you're portraying the situation as having this huge negative impact on the organization, while it really isn't disastrous at all, and it isn't crazy to assume that they can find someone of similar competence among the francophones - Pat1993
If the french guy is the best guy that will still be the case if you interview anglos. If he isn't, that will become clear too. To limit yourself and to assume the guarantee of similar competence (there's nothing to say the french guy couldn't be significantly better than the anglos) is the process issue. I still don't see how this is debatable but like yesterday we can agree to disagree |

Yup. Who wants to work for somebody blocking you from a promotion. Lateral move, fill your boots but even then, if somebody wants to go you should let them go, holding them back isn't good for your organization short or long term |

that depends who they hire and when.
and like I said, it's not perhaps. no gm will sign here if it's to be a puppet. and be fired for decisions he didn't make. - fidopro
1/ Every GM* is given marching orders, either from the President or the Owner (or in a disaster waiting to happen, both).
2/ Every GM* has limited autonomy. Some GMs have more than others. Some even only functionally do the day-to-day stuff as the scope of their job. Others move beyond that, if they can show competentcy.
3/ Rookie or inexperienced GMs will rarely have full autonomy
Molson has decided who is ultimately in charge, and I expect Gorton to make all the critical decisions for this organization. Whomever comes in, will not have the autonomy you expect, and I would even go so far as to say, the longer the GM position is not filled, the level of autonomy will decrease (as people naturally gravitate to Gorton to get things done).
* The rare exception is someone like Yzerman, who can pretty much do whatever he wants with the Red Wings. |

of course. even MB had to seek Molson' approbation for some contracts. but that doesn't mean that he was not in charge and accountable for what happens next. same thing for the next gm. he will have the final word after consulting Gorton Molson and the other heads. that was clearly said half an hour ago.
and he will be fired one day, just like MB was yesterday.
now, you can decide to believe something else. |

in this specific context of finding a GM, just because you have 10 times more people that don't speak French it doesn't mean you're 10 times more likely to find someone more competent from that group... but yeah ice cream time

Not in season. In summer sure. It’s actually quite rare to hire a new Gm mid season. Especially one that is currently under contract with another team. |

Would be counterproductive for 2 reasons, the first being that if people felt an organization would hold them back, then they may be reluctant to join that organization.
Scondly, somewhere down the line, an organization is going to need to hire someone. If they blocked access to thier people, then other team would do the same to them.
Also, just in general, you want people to succeed.and have a chance at bigger things, if they cannot do that on the current organization. |

Believe what you want to believe, but the "GM" in Montreal will not really be a GM (as you expect) for at least the first couple of years.
Maybe down the road.

Mathieu Darche's profile on the TB Lightning site is erroring. According to web.archive.org it's been that way since Nov 20 but it worked prior to that date. |

You mean you'd rather rely on what the team's owner/president said than Mashadar's opinion on the matter?
Are you insane?
