So like I said. Hire a French speaking female as a “press secretary” so to speak. All political leaders have that role on their staff. Why not a NHL team? Would go a long way in showing greater diversity having a smart hockey woman doing the speaking on behalf of the team most nights. |

bah, I agree I would remove the language prerequisites, but I've come to terms with it, it's not that big of a deal. - Pat1993
actually it is, pat. it removes potential candidates from the talent pool.

It’s pretty silly to eliminate some candidates just because of a language issue. The players talk to the media more then the gm does and most of them can’t speak French. - cburgess
Some of them barely speak English either. |

true. you can't tell that the fans wouldn't enjoy a team built to be contenders because the GM can't speak french.

I dunno8, I'm not an expert, I just know that it's very important to the city and fans that the GM be french speaking. So a solution could be more team based management rather than one guy who would be picked from a limited pool of candidates. I think it makes sense, I mean it could already be leading that way with Gorton being hired. |

You comment is also very emblematic of the English Canadians who never understood and accepted Quebec and French speaking as part of Canada…
You are the one stuck on the past…. At the end it is just a question of respect…
Respect demonstrated by Bob Gainey and Larry Robinson….
Honestly, I just don’t understand why the (frank) is it so complicated to understand…

Why just make them a mouthpiece?
If there is some absurd criteria that you need someone that played hockey to be in management, then there is a whole section of untapped potential from the Canadian woman's teams, who I might dare say, could do as well as any former NHL player candidate (especially given they have likely taken less hits to the head).
IDGAF who the GM is, I just want a competent person that can execute on the plan

Bunch of BS. I’m bilingual. English and Español. But when I’m in Quebec all they see me as is an albertan and show no respect to me either. Why do I need to speak a certain language to show or be respected? How about just treat everyone equally? |

One. I am not Canadian.
Two. I think it is more that Quebec has never accepted being part of Canada. |

I find it interesting that this holds true for the Habs, but not the Als or the Impact (or whatever they are called now).

I think the ones that actually complain about this are part of a loud minority, I'm pretty sure most habs fans just want a winning team.

I agree fully. So much of the problems today in hockey management are occurring because it’s just a bunch of former players being trained by the same old school guys. Yet there are many potential candidates that take management courses that could run nhl clubs far far better than the imbeciles we have. But the nhl is still a bunch of old school guys that run the show and if you’re not connected them you have no shot. Teams want different results? Then try a different approach. |
