It wasn't until the New York Rangers' roster for the 2021-22 season was finalized that coach Gerard Gallant finally glanced at the birth dates for all of his players.

"About a month ago, I looked at their ages," he said following Saturday's practice at the MSG Training Center in Tarrytown. "Through camp, I didn’t look."

His reasoning, in part, was because he believes age doesn't dictate readiness to contribute.

Every development path is unique, with each player arriving at their peak on their own timetable.

"Sometimes they get it at 18," he said. "Sometimes it takes until 23 or 24."

That's a great coach.

Anyone remember Rick lanz? He was good at rushing the puck and they changed him, can’t have any of that, green does the same thing with these young guys and picking their brain every day doesn’t help. Let them play to their strengths and stop trying to change them. These young guys get sick of the repetition one on one daily teachings just let them play and have fun, these are offensive players so let them be offensive players.
