Probably the best overall player Utica had last season and never received a call up when just about everyone else did at the end of the season.

His agent talked about a soured relationship with the Canucks after that a bit. Just another thing that Benning and Co. have done wrong.

I think it was Nucker who brought it up about burying him in Europe for this year to avoid expansion draft. He is a pretty decent prospect . Bring him back next year as a fourth line center.

Can’t remember exactly how that went down. He’s listed as an RFA so they must have given him a QO, but then he declined and they never reached a contract. I believe they retain his rights until age 26, so this season and next. Seattle still could have claimed him, but why bother.

Does anyone know if this season in the AHL burns a year of Klimovic ELC?

They have Lind now so they are set and he can come back if desired. Maybe with a new GM /coach he will consider it.

Yeah, I just thought I heard something about it sliding this year, but maybe that was if they sent him to the Q by a certain date.

If he went to the Q it would slide . AHL eats up a year.

I don't know if it was intentional but Jasek had signed in Europe before Van even tendered his qualifying offer. Which they then retain his rights until he is 27 years old.

If a player who is signed to an entry-level contract and is 18 or 19 years of age (as of September 15 of the signing year), does not play in a minimum of 10 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs; AHL games do not count), their contract is considered to ‘slide’, or extend, by one year.

Hearing that Scott Mellanby had extensive talks with Habs owner Geoff Molson at first about becoming GM, then that changed to perhaps becoming president of hockey operations. But he was told yesterday he was out of the running. So he resigned today.

Mentioned his name last year to take over for JB.
