You’ve missed his point, which is that no player is untouchable, not that every player is forsaken.

At some point, we all have to accept that pro hockey is going soft. The days of the Broad Street bullies or Charlestown Chiefs are over. The league has done everything they can to eliminate toughness out of the game and replace it with finesse.

Are you saying Benning is trying to be a trendsetter and have the 1st all soft team?😉

Well said.
I took some flack on some other sites for suggesting that, back then.

If I recall correctly, several people took some flack on this site for suggesting the same thing.

As seen by Vancouver, STL, Dallas, Montreal, and soo many other teams who lose in the Stanley cup finals. It takes a massive toll on the players, and you can tell by the first 25 games how a team will respond.

Vancouver would be light-years ahead of where they are now had they accepted a proper, fully committed rebuild back when they should have instead of this half ass bull shlt that we have been subject to for the last decade.

Who on here used the word untouchable? If they did, that’s silly.

But trading players away before trying a coaching change is equally as silly. There is loads of young talent on this team. But they are young and need leadership. There’s a leadership vacuum within this franchise so not surprised the young guns have lost hope and are just mailing it.

EP he wanted change and he wasn’t talking about on-ice personnel. He was talking coaching. He is our star and once again the Canucks are alienating their star.

It's got some big holes.

Who would have thought that losing Beagle and Sutter would hurt this bad.

Montreal has done what Vancouver should have done after 2011. It's absolutely unbelievable that Montreal has made drastic changes to their front office faster than Vancouver has.

A few have suggested that some are untouchable.

Also, I was taking any comment for granted that no player is moved until the GM and coaching is rectified and players assessed by the new group.

Ruby figured out this morning that firing coaches and GM's have about a 20% success rate of producing mediocre results.

I think it is. There comes a point, even for self absorbed and selfish owners, to look at their failed attempt at staying relevant for the purpose of maintaining sales and profits, and make the proper business decision to make good long term financial decisions at the price of short term.

Myers, OEL, Miller, Horvat, Sutter, Halak, Schenn, Hunt, Chiasson.

Beagle, Roussel, Eriksson, Sedin(s), Ferland, Holtby, Schmidt, Tanev, Edler…

How much “leadership” is enough.

The leadership vacuum is at the top IMO. Change has to start there.

You mean after 2012? Becuase in 2011 they had just missed the cup by one game, and then won the Presidents Trophy again in 2011-12.

I think people wouldn't have been too fond if they did a complete rebuild after the cup run Especially as the team was winning, unlike Montreal right now after their fluke run that was not like the Canucks' sustained success

A change happened in 2014, later then most would have wanted. Now in 2022 8 years after the change happened which was guaranteed to create success. Hasn't.

Damn Benning.

Canucks fans wouldn't have been happy if the did a rebuild after a presidents cup thingy, or if they did a rebuild with the Sedins still on the team.
Fans get way to attached to players and when they finish high in the standings, without looking at the fading assets.
It was a similar fate with the Sharks and their cup run with an old team, then sold the future for a fading offensive defenseman. Sometimes you just have to say (frank) it, this teams window has closed.

They won the presidents trophy and then got swept though in the first round, and iirc it wasn't even close games. I still think they should have sold high after 2011 on their players and rebuilt after that.

IMO, leadership starts and ends behind the bench. If players don’t trust and respect the coaching staff then all is lost regardless of player talent or experience.

Hindsight is so easy. Right after the cup run with basically the same team coming back, that's when you would have decided to blow it up? C'mon man

If you want to talk about blowing it up after the first round bounce, or the next year first round sweep, all ears. But right after their cup run on their ensuing Pres Trophy season, not one person in the NHL would have blown that team up.

That was 2012. The SCF against Boston was 2011.

So, which year do you mean?

Maybe if Strome wasn't an UFA at the end of the season. He is a right shot centre that the Canucks could desperately use. He would probably want a bit of a raise and Horvat still has another year at 5.5.

I'd take a first but Gettinger isn't near enough.

- manvanfan
I see your point, maybe Cytil, Schnieder and a 2nd for Horvat. This would be more to your future needs. Only a 2nd rather than a 1st because of Schnieder.

You are right, I meant 2012, but I don't call it hindsight if a person is saying back then that it is time to rebuild.

I don't think Pettersson is a quick fix. So I don't think a new GM or coach is going to flip a switch.

I realize the coaching staff is terrible but so is a lot of the team and some players may have been over valued.

I would like to see them play out the year and continue doing what they do best (losing) .

I think changing FA should be immediate and the do proper searches for the GM and Coach.

Yeah, those 2010/11 and 2011/12 Canuck teams were the best this franchise has ever had. To expect that to be blown up is just crazy fan talk.

In 2016, when management and owners decided to try another cup run with the aging 2012 core, that is when they should have blown it up. Thinking they could go for it then was a mistake we are still paying for today.

I realize most here like to laugh at Treliving and the Flames, but at least he gets rid of the coach once he realizes the team isn't performing up to par.
Treliving started at the same time as Benning, but has gone through 5 coaches, compared to Benning's 2.
Benning doesn't mind getting rid of his players that don't seem to work out, but he waits way to long to rid the team of piss-poor coaches, which is a bad sign of bad management.

#firebenningandgreen

Benning has twice tried to fire Green. He can’t. Look at the real GM. Aquilini

I'd take that trade. Chytil's value is probably pretty low right now. 4 points 17 games. Making 2.3M a year. A cap throw in by the Rangers.
