Leafies look slow tonight. If they had the same pep they had against kings the other night...
- TheMussel

Seems to me like some do and some don't. The Paycheck Boys and Simmonds look poppin.

You mean woll?
- Fakepartofme

No. I just wanted to trigger Gigsy.

I'm one of the few who still hasn't been overly impressed with Woll. He can still change my mind though.

Yes, he absolutely was. Is he better now? No, not really. But you could argue slightly.

In no world has Sandin been worse than Holl. Sandin has had games where he's struggled, but they were earlier in the year.

I don't want Holl to suck, he just does. I'd obviously prefer payers on the team I cheer for to be good. But I'm not Roger, blind to everything bad Leafs players do.

I'm sure what just happened wasn't Holl's fault either?

- GreatGigInTheSky

Im sure the good play he made just before it doesn't count?

That's the point, you're obsessively looking for the bad and it's all you see. It's the only thing you can find to post on here about. He absolutely has never been Marincin bad and Sandin has absolutely been worse the last couple games.

I've never been a Holl supporter. He's slow as (frank) this year, he's been badly out of position. He also has a - 4 turnover differential to sandins - 5 and has done it with two less giveaways.

They’re calling it “wear and tear” and not being too specific

Thankfully Rielly back but yeah we need to upgrade on the d. Sorry but Holl and or Dermott has to be upgraded. Sandin may have bad games, make mistakes but he is a rookie. That is to be expected. I think given Holl's Dubas gift it ends up Dermott but really I'd prefer the other way around but.... just going to have to wait and see how Dubas plays all this out there once things happen and Mik, Mrazek, etc come back

Hopefully this is just "load management". A thing used a lot in basketball, and with starting goalies. I can see it become more of a thing in hockey, tbh.

I agree with all of this. I get that they've been playing great defensive hockey but I can't see it being sustainable. Holl is exactly where you want to upgrade if you want to be considered a contender.

Leafs have done it before. Spez, Simmonds etc, more the older guys last couple years. Can see them especially with Kase just wanting to make sure. Better a night off rest, heal up, then having him have to deal with the injury bug once again too

He’s had a couple rough games… likely feels a bit sore… gets a game off now but wouldn’t in the playoffs kinda thing… that’s the vibe I’m getting anyways

There is one other aspect to it to consider too. Yes likely banged up sore and it gives him a chance to feel a bit better, avoid injury.

It ALSO gives the team a chance to get a look at Engvall and others more. If you are going to upgrade the D then you have to look at what you have and work from depth. I think the Clifford move plays toward this. Do they package Mik with Dermott and get a D? Do they make a move with a 3 for 1 or 2 even? Mik, Engvall, and Dermot for?? Are they looking at who they might trade?

It's incredible that the routine becomes good when done by a terrible player. So doing something right for once, negates the 3 awful that subsequently followed? No, it does not.

I've pointed out the good that Holl occasionally does. And he's really the only one on the team that does it. When guys run the goalie, he gets in their face and gets physical. I absolutely love when he does that. But that doesn't make up for all the bad that comes with him.

Sandin's game has warts. I ain't saying it doesn't. But even with them Sandin >>>> Holl.

Agreed.

Preferably both, but if only one gets replaced, it needs to be Holl.
