Call up UPL before claiming Murray.

Murray has a lot of valuable experience and I'm sure it's possible for him to turn it around. I doubt that's in the cards for this team at the moment to put a claim in for him.

My question for next season: Are they going to try and be a real team, which would mean making several moves this coming offseason, or are they taking one more season (22-23) off and going for it starting with the 2023 offseason?
- kingcong39

Good question.
I can't imagine the GM's office would actively try to push this team down for another season. They need to get a high pick this draft to select a solid 1C prospect, and to build more depth in the pipeline. It is why I remain steadfast in my conviction that they should not do anything dramatic this season.

Ignoring the draft this upcoming off season, they do have a flood of young players coming in to push the current placeholders aside. The Don once again will once again need to place proper focus on further developing the young guys...but there will be far more of them with
Power, Samuelson, JJ, Quin, Krebs pushing out Haag, Miller, Bjork, Eakin, Hinny/Hayden/Routs.

Does that lift their results enough, or will it take time to gel and grow?
IDK for sure, but I suspect Adams and team will evaluate and come to the conclusion that a decent G and a 1RhD could make a huge difference to warrant the investments in the offseason.

They also may need to do it for cap reasons.

I like cozens. So much potential. Got to get him better linemates. You can see he does not trust them and sometimes tries to do to much himself. Hopefully with a few injured players coming back that will help him.

This team needs to finish checks. There was prob 20 instances that they just peeled off. Detroit finished the hits and kept moving. Think with two lines of fringe nhl players might help to punish the other team with some heavy hit. Zadarov would be nice on this team

Good call.
There is about $15m+ of Cap with the guys we have earmarked for trades / being replaced.
That will limit the number of trades at the TDL I would think as many of those tradeable assets are depth guys to a playoff team...not all, but many.

Way too early 2022/2023 depth chart.

Skinner-Mitts-Tuch
Krebs-Thompson-Olofsson
Quinn-Cozens-Peterka
Asplund-Girgensons-Okposo

Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-_______
Bryson-Joker

_______
Tokarski

Lots of cap to bring in a goalie and a RHD

Would love for them all to come up but dont think KA will do that. Blow up rochester and so much youth in Buffalo.

Can see Krebs staying down to sharpen his C skills instead of come up and poss play wing. Also fill in his frame. Possible ever Peterka. Just a hunch. Peterka will prob force his hand with his play end of this year and next year camp.

Could see KA spend some smart money and bring in some FA’s to help the youngster for next season. Keep Rochester good and give buffalo some vet leadership

Id call Ottawa and see what they want to work out in a trade.

2nd rd pick and Muarry for a 5th.

Helps the Sabres now and in the future for when they trade other pieces.

Cant see Adams going with Mitt, Tallness and cozens as there top 3 centerman. Might force his hand but thinks he finds a vet with good analytics on a 2-4 year contract.

Like the defense alot actually. Bryson and Joker as 3rd pairing 😍. Think we can find a really solid RD in FA or trade

i think power is a given to make the club next season as is samuelsson and if quinn continues to stand out, he's a shoe-in as well...jj peterka seems nhl-ready, krebs is trending in the right direction and murray's already in a reserve role yo-yoing between rochester and buffalo...for me, upl might be the only real question mark

I think it was James Mirtle on The Athletic who said the other day
"Power may be better than we thought...alot better than anyone thought"
Not bad for the #1 pick.

3-9-2 past 14. That’s a rough stretch. Tough road trip in there, but that’s last place stuff, even with the return of Olo and Joker.

My 2 cents, for what it’s worth

I have enjoyed watching every game this season, except one.

We need to sift our focus on getting a top pair RHD to play with Power. It’s not Dahlin

We need a real goalie, with some term this off season

We are carrying 5-6 4th line buns on this roster. We need to settle on 2 and get the rest of the shat out this summer.

I truly believe we have the best talent core in Rochester in Sabres history, hence the need to ship out the crap

Agree and the eye test says exactly what your saying. But that would strip Rochester with all high end talent and make buffalo very young and inexperienced. Next young batch of prospects would come to rochester and asked to do to much as in buffalo also.

Believe when KA says he wants to do this the right way. Can see him telling Peterka and Krebs stay down in rochachacha. Tear it up and show the new batch of youngins the ropes.

Samuelson could of played in buffalo 1.5 years ago but kept him down there. Same with borgen.

Hope they continue to focus on building this internally. UPL's second half determines what they do in net. A hockey trade to move an LD or 2 makes sense. If we see big GMTM type trades, then they learned nothing. Cap should be relatively flat, so there should still be opportunity to make solid, smart moves.

That's one thing that drives me nuts too. So many times they just peeled up. Been a theme for the season. I thought Hayden was gonna bring some of that but I guess not. Also, Murray doesn't seem to play physical whatsoever which is a shame.
