and baker's top-5 prospects closest to the nhl:

1. Samuelsson (they have him in the wings, can be called at a moment's notice)
2. Power (he'll be in Buffalo when the NCAA season is complete, will never wear an Amerks sweater)
3,4,5. Quinn, Peterka, Krebs (all expected to be full-time Sabres next season)

If Anderson is long term which he doesn't seem to be getting better I believe you will see a goalie soon.

Is the Russian that people keep showing doing the Michigan goal a Sabres prospect? I never saw Power play, but they had Michigan highlights during intermission report and I can’t believe how much bigger that guy looked from everyone else on the ice. Looked like he belonged in a different league. Also, how is it that the people that follow prospects on here have not mentioned Josh Bloom? He is lighting up the OHL.

Two more goals for Josh Bloom last night in Saginaw's 6-3 loss at Owen Sound. Bloom running hot with 10 goals in his last eight games. Through 15 games this season, Bloom has amassed 12 goals (7th in OHL) and 20 points (t-17th).

Josh Bloom notched pairs of goals and assists Friday for his second four-point game in the last two weeks as Saginaw stormed back from a four-goal deficit to earn a 6-4 victory at Kitchener. Four of Bloom's 10 goals this season are shorties.

Sabres have prospects hitting on all cylinders everywhere. It's really good to see, cause it isn't just 3 or 4 guys.

Is Kris Baker on here? U posted his top 10 list and Bloom wasn’t on it. It’s got to feel embarrassing for the try to be prospect experts on here to have the 3ER be the first person to mention how good Josh Bloom is.

I’m.

Last prospect 3ER told this board all about was Goalofsson. And so the legend continues.

Forget about my wish to bring the kids up as I sadly accept they won't be coming up, and answer me this:

If the kids were up now, not just a cup of coffee in March, do you think they'd give us the push to a playoff spot? This includes UPL as well, so we never see Dell again.

- lacaprup

No

Again, no offense, but you have been living on a different planet?

The Sabres were built to pick early. The kids in Rochester might be good, but are not good enough nhl talent to win games and put the Sabres in the playoffs.

Serious questions, have you just started watching this franchise after an absence? Like a 10 year jail term?

Both Bloom and Nadeau look like they could potentially play a bottom 6 role a few years down the line in Buffalo.

I don’t think I’d have them in my top 10 Sabres prospects at the moment either though

patty kane says, "well, yeah, i was first overall but wouldn't have landed in chi-town if it wasn't for a lottery that had the fifth-worst team in the league jump to first overall. my buddy captiain serious was selected 3rd-overall and pal duncan keith 54th"

and the la kings say, "hey, what about us?, no first overall"

in come the red wings pushing by their four stanley cups..."step aside, boys! stevie y 4th-overall and that's about it for high picks."

- Michael Pachla

Respectfully disagree.

Just off the top of my head : LA kings had early picks to win. Same as chicago, Pittsburgh....

Drew doughty 2nd overall
Jack johnson top 3 pick

Detroit is a very good example of a team that won with goaltending and drafting

Alex Pietrangelo went 4th I believe as well and the Blues don’t win without him.

To further the point, scouting is vastly different today then even 5 years ago.

Detroit cornering the European market (specifically Sweden) and finding super stars late in the draft wouldn’t happen today like they did it back then. It’s not like some team is going to be getting Michkov in the mid rounds due to lack of scouting presence.

However, when you look at the last several years most of the “steals” of the drafts are generally European players, especially of the shorter variety, so European skaters still generally fall a little farther then they maybe should.

Josh Bailey and Nick Baptiste and solid OHL D+1 seasons as well.

I’m not trying to discredit anything Bloom has done this year, as he’s been great, but I’m not sure who you take out of the aforementioned top 10 prospect list in favour of Bloom.

It’s a good problem to have though. I can’t remember a time where the Sabres have had this much apparent depth in their prospect pipeline

you weren't talking early picks...specifically mention 1st overall...

tanking = the unabashed want to draft 1st overall for a savior and only four teams in the past 40 or so years have done so in an offensively boastful manner:

the 83-84 penguins and devils for lemieux
the 14-15 sabres and yotes for mceichel

detroit was phenomenal as they crawled their way out of the dead wings era...not only the swedes, but they also went after college free agents in the 80's as well as russians in the 90's...mike illitch set the tone and jimmy devalano set the course...

p.s. devellano's book is a very good reed, especially the early parts and his struggles as wings gm

Meh, i can understand the Sabres goal and design and disagree. They are clearly better if not more talented without Jack. Shame on them for not seeing that and making a push. I, frankly, dont give a poop about the draft lottery. My own franchise history shows me how stupid playing to lose is.

You're posting as if the Sabres last ten years are something to be lauded and not something to be ashamed of.

Excellent post and points pegsville.

I really didnt want to get into the tank debate and high picks winning Stanley cups.

Detroit had all the russians and it was a very unique situation for most of their cups.

Also stevie y was an early pick. 4th isnt top 3, but....

If you like Tage with his size and skill, then you'd really like Conor Geekie as the Sabres 1st round pick in the '22 draft.
